    New PSU

    Current setup:
    GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121425
    MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...irtualParent=1
    CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...819115077R#top
    Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231314
Using SATA HD and the only other appliance is the DVD drive.

I have been using a 500W PSU for about 4-5 years now, and I think it's reached the end of its days as my computer can no longer power on with my GPU plugged in. I got a good amount of years out of it, and plus my video card is supposed to require 550W PSU so I was happy it worked for awhile.

I am looking for a replacement. Currently, I am looking at:

80 Plus gold, modular, 750W, and my favorite it has a 5 year warranty. Although, I think 750W is excessive for my current build, and I probably won't be upgrading for another year or two.
Thoughts? Anyone have a PSU they would recommend?

An XFX550W should be more than enough for that build and will be sufficient for your next build as well unless you go SLI/CF.

A lot of people think that getting a bigger PSU is 'future proofing' but outside of SLI/CF as Lemmiwink said, it's not necessary. Power demand in hardware is going DOWN each iteration. Your next upgrade in that system will use the same, if not less power.

Thanks for the advice guys. I did not know this. One question though. Is it okay to cut with the bare minimum? In this case meaning getting a 550W power supply when the minimum requirements of the GPU is 550W? I admit, I probably should have not gotten an A in Physics Electricity & Magnetism and I have no idea how a power supply works.

Without going into detail, a good 550W PSU (like the XFX Core) should be sufficient for a 560 Ti system, which consumes 300-350W at load.

It's really down to Amps. The recommended 550W minimum is just set there to account for a shitty PSU that is not delivering the Amps needed to run the system. I can break it down to watts for you if you like.

    Standard 550W power supply:
    +12V 390W output
    +5V 120W output
+3.3V 40W output (numbers pulled out of thin air and only given as an expample)

    Quality 550W PSU:
    +12V 500-550W
    +5V ?

doesn't matter anymore, the quality PSU delivers it's promised output over the +12V rail which is your biggest power draw making it sufficient to run ANY setup with 1 gpu you can think of, even the AresII. There is absolutely no reason to buy bigger than needed unless you are looking for a special PSU, like I when I downgraded my AX1200 to a AX860i. Why did I buy such big overkill PSU's in the first place? Because they have black cables and you can buy sleeved cable packs for them as well, plus they are 100% silent 99,99% of the time due to a temp activated fan.

If you are just looking to power your rig and be safe for the next few years, the XFX550W is likely the best buy you will get.

Thanks yurano and Lemmiwink for the explanations. I will be going with that XFX 550W.
