I think I figured out why it's called "Hearthstone"

The reason why is that the game is played at an inn and "Hearthstone" is the item that teleports you there.

I'm kinda vague on why they used Hearthstone to be fair. I mean it's a WoW word most users will know, and it does, like you indicate, make you thinks of Inns and resting, and doing stuff outside of the general questing and fighting of WoW, but it doesn't really bring to mind strategic card games. Guess they wanted a word with feeling more then an accurate word for a card game.

Yeah, pretty much. I think they wanted it to feel a bit more laid back than the typical titles they give their games.

Yeah I was kinda confused by the name too. Probably the best theory so far... if not the only one I've seen. But I'm sure there are many more words that can better communicate the "inn" feeling than hearthstone.

Hearthstone makes it feel warm and welcoming to me. I also liked the dwarf in the previews that had all the feelgood "everyone is welcome" lines.

Oh well, that just goes to show that Blizz apparently are pretty masterful at picking the right word for what they want to confer to people. It's not like I'm some great Blizzard mind reader or anything, so I just naturally came to the conclusion they wanted me to come.

I got the whole cozy and warm feeling they're probably were going for when that drunk dwarf came up and shouted "or you just play for fun, blarg, blarg" or something. The tone in the game seems harsh and filled with action, but with and against your friendly neighbours and pals around! n_n
