Making daily life into a game, right?
For example, picking up the trash nets you points and these points can later be used for things like public transport.

If only making money in real life was as simple as it can be in a game. I mean even in some of the more "grindy" games it is much more straight foward than it is in real life.

Well fancy theories and psychology aside Gaming is so universally appealing to our generation that we instantly have something to share when we meet others of the same age/interest. Everyone has some sort of gaming story to share.
That, and at least in Europe, it has made working/playing with people from other countries more seamless and natural as even the most idealistic EU official could have hoped for. At least in WoW I've raided with people from all across Europe, ranging from Romania to Portugal. It really proves that given a common goal, we can all get along just fine and be quite effective too.
