Get sennheiser headphones.

I have one of their enviroment voice cancelling headphones and i use it to sleep in an air plane.

In-ear (I got Sennheiser ie6 in-ear)and some ear protection (like http://www.laitis.se/media/catalog/p.../466100039.jpg)

I used this at work. CNC cutting, lots of highpitch.
Can't hear any of it, just sweet music<3

At dreamhack (LAN) iv used in-ear+normal headphones both playing same sound, worked fine but could still hear ppl yelling/music playing around me.

This is a lovely solution actually. And i really dont think there is a better one.

I suppose you're right. You may miss what is being said in Vent/TS aswell as affects from the game. Have you tested these with said enviroment?

So you use in-ear and headphones at the same time or am I misunderstanding? Would love some sweet music! Was the yelling muffled at least?

Yes I do that when needed.
Headphones+inear = yelling is muffled when you got low sound or its dead silent (like it is sometimes while playing).
Turn the sound up and u will shut it out.

Some inear with noise cancelation and closed headphones is probably the best u can do with your budget.
