    PSU and graphics question.

Okay well I recently ordered a new mobo, processor and cooler for the processor and now I came to the PSU and graphics card.
I am getting a 6770 for free from my brother. I have a 430 watt PSU but it says the card needs 450 watts. I just spent a crap load of cash for 2 components. Do I really need to buy another PSU for this card? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar conundrum. Dell studio xps with a 350W PSU who's video card just burned out so I'm planning to upgrade to an AMD 7850. The AMD website says 500-600W is recommended but I've heard that Dell undervalues their PSU's; but is this enough to warrant running the video card without upgrading the PSU?

    It really depends.

What hardware do you have currently?
    What brand PSU is it?

AMD and nVidia ask for higher ratings than needed, usually to take into account that people are prone to buy crappy PSUs.

Is 430 enough for a 6770? If its a good PSU, yes. If it's a bad one, either no or 'gamble'

350w however is likely a crap brand, and I wouldn't recommend it.

EDIT: I did some checking, and a system with a 3570k and 6770 only tops out at about 290w, so it should be okay assuming the actual wattage spread is good. As for Flaks, I'd still need to know the CPU being used, but I doubt a 350 will support it with a 7850.

Yup, lookin' like imma have to buy a new PSU for my dell Gonna be a biatch trying to figure out which PSU might fit into a studio xps 8000 (pretty effing old now). Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

My CPU is a core i7 860 208 GHz. As far as I can tell a 400W isn't good enough to run an Nvidia GTX 460 and while Nvidia seems to be less power intensive than ATI cards the 7850 is a pretty massive jump up anyways.

But yea, any PSU recommendations would be appreciated. Preferably cheaper and around 600w.
Here's basically most of the specs: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-produ...uide_en-us.pdf

Tower dimensions are under "Physical" header.

GPU I'm looking to buy: http://www.amazon.com/XFX-HD7850-Dis...radeon+hd+7850

You need less power than you think, it's just a matter of quality most of the time. 350 just does not cut it though. 450-500 with a good quality one will do the job. Nobody neds more than 550 unless they go dual ATI cards.
