Very Bad Lag Spikes

Everytime I play LoL I experience normal ping at around 70-80, but every 3 mins or so, my ping raises to 500 and stays there for about 20 seconds. This happens to me every game, and even after calling my ISP, they continually "assure" me it's not from their end. Is anyone else experiencing this? I hate that I can pretty much throw a game due to such a horrendous lag spike.

I've reset my hardware (pc/modem/router), and this happens on both my desktop (wired) and laptop (wireless). I only experience this in LoL... so I don't know if Riot's servers are acting up and they aren't fixing it or if it's my ISP. I was looking on the LoL forums and a lot of people are experiencing this too. I'm just wondering if you guys know about this, have experienced it, or know a fix for it.

To where would you recommend me run a trace route?

Their servers are/were having some issues as of last night, and some more as of last patch. So if the problems are older than that, it may not be on their end, but on your ISP's end or something of the sort.
