Will you buy nextgen Xbox if if it requires constant online

As the title says, if the next Xbox requires a constant / reliable internet connection to play games of any type will you purchase it?

These rumours come from Orthy on twitter who almost immediately "protected" his account so only approved followers can see his posts.

Constant and reliable are 2 different things (I know reliability wasn't mentioned) but it'll come up.
If this is true, then Microsoft is alienating a portion of their consumer base (I have no idea the %)

I'm not saying that, it just seems stupid to require Internet to play single player games.

Nah, I can live without that mess. I'm not a pirate and I'm not rewarding shit business practices that punish paying customers. I'll stick with Steam.

Nope, not buying any console for a while yet, as regarding to the original question, no, I will not because I hate such draconic DRM measures and I will not support a business that uses them.

there is nothing wrong with a device being internet capable, there is everything wrong with bricking a device because the internet is down.

Use common sense for a few moments and you would see it won't be a requirement, It was said the Xbox will have an "always on" feature, but it won't be required,(This was in the Official Xbox mag a while back) otherwise people without internet couldn't buy it, and they won't exclude people because of that

Always on means it will always be connected. You can use the contextual clues to see that's what he meant.

It's from Kotaku, so I take it with a grain of salt but they say that they've got sources implying that you need a connection to start your games, and any interruption of more than 3 minutes will cause the game to time out.

If it's true, I'll probably hold off on the next-gen Xbox.

Been an avid xbox fanboy since the Halo 1 days so of course no matter if it's internet required all the time or not I will support the next-gen Xbox :P

the only time i have played a console recently is when i didn't have a connection or there was a console only game that i really wanted to play.
Both xbox and wii failed fairly quickly with having games i wanted to play and the ps3 failed at that aswell but slightly further down the line.
Since most games now can be had on the PC i'd prefer playing form one...if the net go's out well FU xbox what's the point in having you?

Whole gaming industry became a mess when LCD/LED screens took over in all fairness. There is no decent compromise between motion blur, screen tearing and input lag.

Admit it, everyone with decent eyesight knows this to be true

Exactly this, so many greasy nerds complaining when their shit wont work 0.01% of the time, my power/internet hasn't gone out in the last 18 months at all.

    Stop whinging holy shit.

Wow, way to be an arrogant, condescending ass.

We're simply saying that shit happens. When you live in north central Kansas, your internet options are fucking limited. Sorry, not all of us live in areas with good providers.

Poll's a bit biased. The always online not only requires you to have stable internet, but also requires the provider to have such and stable servers. Always online is essentially asking the vendor permission to use what you've bought from him, and if he's out to lunch, screw you.

So a consumer not buying a product because of a perfectly valid reason is whining now?

Man, I've gotten this capitalism thing all wrong it seems.

Really? not everyone has stable fiber-optic connections.

rather certain I won't buy it ... good chance I wouldn't anyway ... but if it requires online ... and used games are out; it is done for me; and I don't care what exclusive awesomeness they try to flash around.

If PS4 acts against used games/rentals ... I won't bother with that either.

I'm more likely to search out old consoles and games for them, better value for money anyway. If I want graphics, my PC is better than any console anyway; if I want a controller, those are accessible as well.

If I'm going to play a console, it just needs to play games, that is it. I don't need browsers. I don't need movie rentals. I don't need streaming video. I don't need to be online. I just need something I turn on and play. Simple as that.

What is worse, the intentions are nefarious. It is purely about profit, not furthering the technology. It is about rentals and microtransactions. Making money on the backend of used games. Killing the rental industry which I feel gets them more sales than prevents. Where in the past, everything was about furthering the quality of the game, either in length, visuals, or gameplay.

    It is sad.
