Youth PCC forced to resign, for childish tweets at the age of 14.

So, im torn on this issue here - whilst she could of been a pinnacle of reintegrating N.E.E.Ts, changing public perception of youths in Kent - and a host of other stuff.

It backfired spectacularly, into the hands of critics - her twitter feed was unchecked and had childish messages in it, following the lines of possible sexual and homophobic messages.

She was extremely young, and as such i feel she shouldn't of been held to such exacting standards (as everyone DOES make mistakes). But vice versa she was in a public office, with a LOT of press attention.

So either way, im on the fence on this one. What are you thoughts MMO - Champ?

A teenager who became Britain's first youth police and crime commissioner (PCC) has apologised for her "inappropriate" comments on Twitter.

Paris Brown, 17, was appointed to work alongside Kent's Independent PCC Ann Barnes representing young people across the county last week.

Paris said she was "wildly exaggerating" in what could have been considered racist and anti-gay tweets.

Ms Barnes said Paris would "learn quickly from this".

The Mail on Sunday reported Paris boasted about her sex life, drug taking and drinking on her account @vilulabelle on the social networking website.

The Twitter page has since been removed.

Paris has apologised and told the BBC the comments, posted between the ages of 14 and 16, had been "misinterpreted".

"All teenagers make mistakes, all teenagers think at one point 'oh I'm annoyed, write something stupid'… it's an age thing," she said.
    'Stupid' and 'immoral'

Paris said she thought she was "definitely up to the job".

"I don't think that a few stupid, immoral tweets which I admit can be taken horrifically offensively but were not meant at all to offend anyone," she said.

Paris said she thought she was "definitely up to the job".

"I don't think that a few stupid, immoral tweets which I admit can be taken horrifically offensively but were not meant at all to offend anyone," she said.

"I don't think they should shape my future and my career and how I'm going to represent young people."

In a statement, Paris said she was "not homophobic, racist or violent and am against the taking of drugs".

She will take up the post of youth PPC in July or August, after her apprenticeship.

Nicholas Rogers, a Conservative councillor in Kent, tweeted: "@AnnBarnesKPCC's plan to throw a teen into a vicious political environment was naïve.

"Sad, but Youth PCC should resign and post scrapped."

He tweeted Ms Barnes' youth PCC plan had "gone badly wrong, throwing her judgement into question and damaging a young persons's future".

In another tweet, he added: "Naive to throw a teen into robust political environment. Youth PCC nice bit of PR but ended in tears."
    'She's not hiding'

Ms Barnes said of Paris's tweets: "They are awful, they are dreadful, there's no getting away from that. But Paris is learning very quickly and maturing into a very sensible young woman.

"She's not hiding behind what she's done. She's here after being plastered over the front of the Mail on Sunday in quite a vitriolic report.

"There aren't many people I know who would face the country's media and I take my hat off to her for doing it."

The PCC said she did not think she had made a mistake by appointing Paris, who went through a "proper recruitment process" and vetting by the force.

Earlier in a statement Ms Barnes said Paris would "learn quickly from this".

The appointment of a youth PCC was one of Ms Barnes's main manifesto pledges in the campaign ahead of her election as Kent's first PCC in November.

She said the youth PCC would receive £15,000 for the year, part-funded from her own £85,000 salary.

One of these days kids will learn that NOTHING you do on the internet is forgotten. Later in life people WILL check your facebooks/tweets and if you said some stupid and offensive stuff it can and most likely WILL cost you a job.

Pro tip The internet is for porn, funny pics and help with video games. NOT spewing your personally beliefs and daily routine. This is most true on sites where your real name is used.

The sad thing is, you can pretty much assure that ridiculous things like this are always happening in GB, as much as shooting sprees usually originate in the USA.

What happened to freedom of speech? Beeing investigated for something you wrote on the internet when you were 14, seriously?

Can we take what you said at age 14 accountable to your current job?

    No? Shame.

I'm not defending her, far from it - but still... I guess people will go after you like a bloodhound to further an agenda.

It was an extremely divisive position, it had quite some fighting over it - and a mass of potential candidates, it also generated a lot of PR to help N.E.E.Ts and change the public perception of young people.

Just a shame, it was wasted like such.

Kid does something stupid, gets caught 3 years later due to the magic of the internet. Case closed. She deserves it, and should be thankful for the lessons that she can learn from the experience. Maybe it will teach other children not to be morons on the internet so that parental groups don't eventually pressure governments to turn the internet into an adults only club.

    EDIT:

She didn't get arrested for her tweets, she was just outed from a position as "Youth Police and Crime Commissioner" because her tweets suggested illegal activity, and discriminatory tendencies. You know, the kind of thing you don't want police to be involved in.

I'm actually very interested in the *Internet replacing parents* monitoring, this seems like a perfect example almost.

Freedom to say what you want is there. He was not arressted for the comments. It was not a CRIME to say what he said.

You are free to say what ever you want. Just as employers are free to fire people for pretty much any reason.

I think it's a shame. Everyone has done/said something stupid in their life...many when they were teenagers.

She's actually being investigated over it by the police, but they've largely said it's just formal after her resignation.

I would not bet anything on that, after all quite a few people have already been imprisoned for writing something on the internet.

Youthful ignorance, i suppose - if you wish to smarten it up.

Her future is pretty much damaged, but from what i've read - she's from a reasonable wealthy family, so that's something.

At 14 years of age, one should know exactly what it is flying of their mouths (or keyboards).
