    RPPM Proc chance addon?

    So here goes...

I know it doesn't exist yet but I was wondering if this would even be possible based on the RPPM data currently available:

Most of you know ExtraCD - tracks procs / ICD of trinkets.

What i'm wondering is this: Would it be possible to make an addon that calculates the chance of RPPM procs in real time? Based on your haste, time since last proc, and trinket RPPM data, then display it in the icon of that trinket?

Right now we just have to "remember" when our last proc was, and make guesses as to when we think it's gonna proc again (is it worth saving a 1min CD for another 10s to fish for a proc?)

    EG:

Don't hold out much hope for this, at least with RPPM still being in it's infancy, but long-term I think this might just be possible, but I have no coding experience at all so looking at you authors for some ideas!

It would actually be a matter of fairly simple math and event handling, I'm pretty sure you could make a weak aura.

One case where I see it being pretty interesting is when temporary haste procs kick in and "push" your proc chance into the "bad streak" protection. I'll try my hand at some weak aura and see what I can get.

Okay I've got something working. I built it for Cha Ye's Essence of Brilliance since it is the only RPPM trinket I have at the moment. In addition it's a slightly more complicated one since it also scales on crit.

    Here's the WA string :

    It displays three things :
    - first line, the effective RPPM including temporary haste (and in this case, crit) buffs.
    - second line, the time since the last proc
    - third line, the time at which the "bad streak protection" will kick in if not in that region, or the value of the bonus multiplier if already in that zone (with an additional asterisk if a proc is guaranteed on the first hit on pull).

It's totally possible, but I'm not sure it's really necessary to have all that information. The only things worth knowing, imo, are the current ICD on the trinket (most of them don't have one, but a couple do), if there's an increased chance from the trinket not having procced for long enough and what that chance is, and whether or not you next hit is a guaranteed proc. Any other info (like the proc chance of any specific hit) would just be clutter.

Surutcra did a pretty nice job with his, although like I said the current RPPM of the trinket just seems cluttersome to me. I would probably just have it display the third line and maybe have it light up when it's a guaranteed proc.

From what I remember, all the new RPPM procs/trinkets do not have ICD. There is NO way to track when the next proc will happen. Take Bad Juju for example, I've had it proc three times in a row within 5 seconds of each other. Its complete RNG. Same goes for my Hunter T15 2pc bonus.. I have had multiple Dragonhawks up at one time.

An addon to calculate proc chance could be possiple, but that's really about it.

Modified Surutcra's original weakaura for Bad Juju (522, you'd want to change the Spell ID for other versions).

Yeah it will tell "error" in while configuring since it's the default string when no proc info is available (but should no show up, since it does on the first proc).

After discussing it quickly with guildmates, I was told that the "ime since last proc" is reset on other events than just a proc (and the obvious "trinket just equipped"). For example, zoning in ou out, porting both seem to reset it (not tested personally though, it's a bit annoying to do). And considering I realized I was not really looking at it during fights, I though it would just be easier to hide it then and only use it pre-pull.

The version I have right now is the following :
    - same display
    - hidden during fights
    - hidden when not in a raid group
    - hidden if the trinket is not equipped
    - timer reset on: proc, trinket just equipped, zone in/out

It should be fairly easy to create a variation of these if you need it, I'm sorry I couldn't just check the "don't load in combat" instead, but then it will also stop tracking procs in combat. I can try and alter it for you if you want, just ask.

I've derived it for generic RPPM trinkets (that scale with haste only) : Example Unerring Vision of Lei Shen :

If you want to edit these to get them working with another trinket, you must edit these four lines with relevant values :
    Code:
    -- Aura specific informations
local aura_ID = "UVLS"; -- Name specific to that aura (tracking)
        local RPPM_effect_ID = 138963; -- Trinket buff ID
local item_ID = 96186; -- ID of the trinket (item)
        local RPPM_base_rate = 0.5*1.05; -- Base RPPM rate
Information needed : the RPPM rate, the ID of the effect (buff), the ID of the trinket (item ID, will depend on the ilvl of your trinket !) [to track for equipped item], an "aura_ID" of your choosing [the only constraint is that you cannot have two different auras using the same, or the proc tracking will get confused]

Note that you must edit these lines three times :
    - Custom text function in the "display" tab
    - Custom trigger function in the "trigger" tab
    - Custom untrigger function in the "untrigger" tab

Oh and the thing with percentage proc chance is that it's not like old trinkets with constant proc chance.

The actual proc chance on a hit depends on the RPPM, whether the "bad streak protaction" has kicked in already, and most importantly how long it was since your last chance at a proc. Tracking the "chances at a proc" to get dynamic chance to proc would be both complicated and of little usefulness, it would just go up and down all the time without providing any meaningful information. What I could do is display a "proc chance % per second" (which is constant at constant RPPM) instead, but then I'm not sure that's really more intuitive than what I'm displaying already !

great work, surutcra.. exactly what i was looking for, thanks!

just one quick question.. why do you mutliply the base rppm by 1.05?

Would someone mind putting an import string for H Rentanaki's or ROO?

He just explained the whole procedure to follow to adapt it to any trinket in the post right before yours. If you have ever learnt to read, it should be feasible.

I understand that. I had issues while trying to change the string, and was curious if anyone else had any luck with it. Thanks for your kind and well thought out retort, however.

I (very heavily) modified Surutcra's code to my liking now that I have my Rune of Re-Origination, I can't promise you'll like the changes I've made but I don't mind sharing the export for you to give it a shot:

The only thing I don't like about it that I can't figure out how to fix is that for some reason the duration info I'm giving it is causing it to dissapear for a couple frames after the ICD ends and then it reappears. If anyone can figure out why that is I would appreciate it.

Props to Surutcra for the original code, btw =) I did make some improvements to the base code like smarter and more efficient equip-based ICD testing as well as a lot of misc efficiency improvements. You're welcome to check out the code if you get the time Surutcra and take anything of the code you like.

Edit: Updated with a newer string since I modified it to support all my ICD trinkets as well.

What I could do is display a "proc chance % per second" (which is constant at constant RPPM) instead, but then I'm not sure that's really more intuitive than what I'm displaying already !

This Feature would be really nice, atleast for our not that "theroycrafty" Player. Just an Icon with and %.

The chance to proc on next event capable of proccing is probably too complex a piece of maths for weak auras. Working out chance to proc on pull should be simple enough, though.

You could also work out (involves a couple of integrals) the average time to proc on the more basic trinkets and use this in the weak aura if you make some basic assumptions about your rate of attack - probably useful information.

The average time to proc is not really useful, since the distribution is really not centered around it (the probability distribution of the time to proc is roughly exponential, if you neglect the "bad streak protection").

I guess you could display the chance to proc on first hit instead of the multiplicative bonus you get when out of combat, it's a more intuitive way to output that information.

I'll look into your edit aggixx, it's true that ICD support should be fairly easy to include, but since I'm leaning in the direction of only displaying it before the pull to get an idea of how likely I am to get quick procs, it might not be needed that much actually.

Edited my auras a bit :
    - First line unchanged (real-time RPPM)
    - Second line unchanged (time since last proc)
    - Third line modified to display :
    - The time to "bad streak protection" activation (if protection not yet active)
    - The chance to proc on first hit at pull when out of combat (if protection active)
    - The chance per second to proc when in combat (if protection active, note that the aura is still hidden in combat, but the display is ready)
    - Removed the "in-raid" condition to the aura display, it was more annoying than useful anyway.

PM/ask here if you'd like me to link to these updated ones ;-) [will look into aggixx's edit when I have time available]

And also, I've got one for the RPPM meta too with the spec-specific ratios for warlocks included if anyone wants that.

    ---------- Post added 2013-04-25 at 01:32 PM ----------

And I'm currently working on a more raid-leader/raid-organisation oriented weakaura able to keep track of several buffs/debuffs among all raid members and display a custom or automated list of players with their names colored accordingly (similar to what you may have seen on some Ra-Den videos). I intend to test that next week on H-Council to see how it performs and I'll be sharing it here if anyone wants to try it out !
