Third to last episode of Dexter spoilers
Dexters son who is a toddler was playing on the tread mill and fell of and cut him self so Hannah (who is a wanted fugitive with a marshal who has a tip she's in town looking for her and putting the word out that they're looking for her) tries calling Dexter once and then takes his son to the hospital!
So of course the lady at the counter in the hospital recognizes her and tells the marshal so now the marshal knows Dexter is hiding her

Well, if the cut was that bad, it was really her choice between saving the toddler or staying out of trouble. I don't see the stupidity in the situation, but perhaps it's because I do not watch Dexter and have no real context to the story and the situation outlined in your spoiler.
