Can someone explain?

Guess it doesn't help I don't recognise any of the icons representing the teams. ^_^
A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.
I'm horrible at explaining things
The farther left and down the teams are on the graph the more effective their defenses have been.
The team with the blue and green bird (Seahawks) has one of the defenses in the league. They are very good at keeping the opposing team's offense from running or passing the ball down the field thus keeping that team from gaining yards (unit of measurement) during their plays and keeping them from scoring.
They allow the least amount of points to be scored against them per game than any other defense in the league.

Points per game is really the only thing that matters when determining the best defenses. There are good defenses that give up more yards, but limit the scoring out of strategy. They will allow a lot of short plays in order to not get burnt with big scoring plays. This allows other teams to march up and down the field on them but when they get inside the 20 there is much less room for the offense to operate which is when those teams shine (they no longer have to worry about the long play).
