It's fine. For a couple that's been together for a while.

Early in a relationship, probably the most useless kind of date. Hell, going for a walk in a park is a better first date. And it's free.

Bowling and going to a reasonable place in town to eat, good date.

Going to a club, and then just fooling around in town, Reasonable date (Depends if either get pissed)

1st date, Going to the movies - sitting in silence for roughly 2 hours, Not so good.

Chances are she/ he want's to get to know you better, and decide if a next date is warranted (1st dates are pretty good indicators)

I've only ever been to the cinema once as a first date. I let her pick and she picked a really boring film, so boring I left to smoke halfway through.

Depends on the girl. Some like closeness some like to just watch the movie. There is nothing wrong with holding her hand or something, but don't try and be pushy with contact if she isn't receptive. And just watch the movie, that is why you are there right?
