New Dark Portal

You guys have seen the red dark portal in the front page right? I got excited about what the new dark portal on Draenor would look like. Imagine that massive, badass portal from BC in Hellfire Peninsula, but red and maybe a little different since it's a few hundred years before Outland. I remember stepping through the dark portal in 2007 and being awestruck- looking forward to do it again but 7 years later!

I think they should have had the second Dark Portal open in Arathi Highlands, that zone deserves a big update.

I'd imagine that Medivh designed the portal's architecture, remember the portal was only created as a result of his magical communications with Gul'Dan.

Seeing that this portal has the snake, I'd say it's an update for Azeroth's Dark Portal. They might do an Iron Horde themed one for Draenor.

Yeah that is my thought too, ours is the one stated to change to glow red.
And technically the Outland side is called The Stair of Destiny.

Maybe the Dark Portal human statues are depictions of the titans? idk what they look like so I am probably wrong. Who knows it's a mystery.

They probably won't do anything but change the color pallet. But if they do change it i imagine the entire portal covered in plants etc since it will be in the Talaan jungle.

Nah, guessing they didn't realize it doesn't make sense until after it was added to the game. Unfortunately there was no "red shirt guy" to tell them to get their facts together.

This is why. Medivh told Gul'Dan how to design the portal in the book Rise of the Horde.

Plus, while I can see their silhouettes being human-like, really they're just hooded figures with swords and glowing eyes... not distinctly human, but still humanoid.

Same here. Nothing to say they're humans, but that might be the most likely case seeing as Medivh has been around them. Medivh gave Gul'Dan very specific instructions. I pulled out Rise of the Horde again and went to the last chapter (22):

"The visions continued. Medivh had a very clear idea of what he wanted: a portal between the two worlds, one that could be created with the Shadow Council and its warlocks on one side, and Medivh and whatever magics he was controlling on his side..."

"... In one vision, he assumed the form of a large black bird perching on Gul'dan's arm... There was a small piece of paper rolled up around the bird's leg. In his vision, Gul'dan unrolled the paper and saw a design that took his breath away. When he awoke, he sketched it on a large parchment."

"The Portal gate had been finished and looked both beautiful and terrifying. Two cloaked figures, whose eyes glowed red either from magic or clever technology, flanked the opening. A carved serpentine creature curled about the top its maw gaping open, showing pointed carved teeth. It extended sharp, lizardlike claws and had ridges along its neck and body. I didn't see you say that the current one is a rehash from Vanilla's one, because only the color changed...

The entire Dark Portal stone structure is updated. Most noticably the statues.

I didn't see you say that the current one is a rehash from Vanilla's one, because only the color changed...

Maybe a facelift in some of the finer details, the eyes on the adjoining statues to glow red, and maybe some crumbling damage caused by tremors when the color changes. Small nuances that say, "Hey, we actually give a fuck "
