    5.2 DPS spec statistics

I made some PvE DPS class and spec statistics based on Raidbots. I selected the last 30 days and 10m normal using link:

    http://raidbots.com/dpsbot/Spec_Scor...14/30/default/

The amount of samples was 551,165 and this is how they are divided to different classes:

    Hunter ... 15.17%
    Warlock .. 14.65%
    Mage ..... 14.20%
    Shaman ... 10.10%
    Rogue ..... 9.69%
    Priest .... 9.45%
    DK ........ 7.39%
    Druid ..... 6.94%
    Warrior ... 6.15%
    Paladin ... 3.67%
    Monk ...... 2.60%

No big surprises here. Hunter is the most played DPS class. Over 15% means that basically almost every 10m team has a hunter (or the teams containing hunters produce way more WoL logs than the teams without hunters). And Monk is the least played DPS class, probably because it is so new.

Then if we look at the DPS specs the situation is this:

    Hunter Survival ... 10.98%
    Priest Shadow ...... 9.45%
    Warlock Destruction. 8.50%
    Rogue Assassination. 8,46%
    Shaman Elemental ... 7.39%
    Mage Fire .......... 6.91%
    Mage Frost ......... 6.57%
    DK Frost ........... 6.04%
    Druid Balance ...... 5.47%
    Warrior Fury ....... 4.82%
    Warlock Affliction . 4.54%
    Hunter Beast Mastery 3.84%
    Paladin Retribution. 3.67%
    Shaman Enhancement . 2.71%
    Monk Windwalker .... 2.60%
    Warlock Demonology . 1.61%
    Druid Feral Cat .... 1.47%
    DK Unholy .......... 1.35%
    Warrior Arms ....... 1.32%
    Rogue Combat ....... 1.20%
    Mage Arcane ........ 0.72%
    Hunter Marksmanship. 0.35%
    Rogue Subtlety ..... 0.03%

Hunter is strong here too. If you don't know what spec you should select go Survival Hunter. More than every 10th DPS character is specced as Survival. Poor Subtlety, out of 10,000 DPS characters only 3 selected Sub spec (and regret that).

Then we can also check how it goes inside a class:

Priest Shadow ..... 100% of DPS Priests
Paladin Retribution 100% of DPS Paladins
Monk Windwalker ... 100% of DPS Monks

Hunter Survival .... 72.39% of Hunters
    Hunter Beast Mastery 25.31%
    Hunter Marksmanship . 2.30%

    Warlock Destruction. 58.03% of Warlocks
    Warlock Affliction . 30.96%
    Warlock Demonology . 11.01%

Mage Fire .......... 48.67% of Mages
    Mage Frost ......... 46.25%
    Mage Arcane ......... 5.08%

Shaman Elemental ... 73.15% of DPS Shamans
    Shaman Enhancement . 26.85%

    Rogue Assassination. 87.28% of Rogues
    Rogue Combat ....... 12.37%
    Rogue Subtlety ...... 0.36%

    DK Frost ........... 81.78% of DPS DK's
    DK Unholy .......... 18.22%

Druid Balance ...... 78.80% of DPS Druids
    Druid Feral Cat .... 21.20%

Warrior Fury ....... 78.45% of DPS Warriors
    Warrior Arms ....... 21.55%

Ass-ass Rogue dominates here, almost 90% of the class. Marksmanship, Arcane and Subtlety are not in good shape.

Subtlety is in hilariously poor shape, it was a risky venture (which I went with) that Subtlety might finally catch up to combat and perhaps assassination with a little nudge before 5.2 dropped.

Then they went and gave huge steaming buffs to assassination and combat and said, subtlety might scale too high but that might be ok, because it's horrible to play, we'll keep an eye on it.

    Hilarious stuff.

Yeah, on farm content I go marks and most of the time I can probably die halfway through the fight and still rank, as there are so few logs of marks hunters because there's really no reason to play it. I don't die halfway through (usually!), but I could. It's quite sad really, it's really not anywhere close to as bad as those statistics illustrate.

Subtlety has almost always been a pvp spec since Vanilla. People are probably used to it by now, just like Frost Mages have 99% of the time been a pvp spec as well.

Both would probably have to get neutered if their damage went up.

Despite the really low number of arcane mages, arcane sims the highest of any spec in the game.

Mage sims haven't been accurate in a while. Though arcane is strong.

This is mainly because arcane has close to no mobility and there are quite a few fights in ToT that have a significant amount of movement and just about every fight has some movement which makes the other specs more desirable then arcane.

    ^^ This...

Sims are based on standing still and focusing down a single target. Add some movement into the mix and Arcane drops below numerous specs.

And yet Hunters are still benched in Heroic progression for low DPS and lack of a raid cooldown.

Hunters are nothing more than a gear soak for any serious heroic progression guild. If enhance shammys weren't so bad this tier we would have to fight for that job even.

Hunters benched on Heroic progression? No

Absolutely. This has been the case for the majority of the top 30-40 guilds this tier, mine included. Gotta stack those Warlocks.

Interesting. Not sure which guilds you are looking at but it could just be your guild not wanting to play that specific Hunter?

Most of the top 30-40 guilds have been running with a Hunter on the majority of their Heroic progression fights. Easily verifiable per logs and the nice handy "View Raid" button on WoWProgress.

Edit: This includes 10 man guilds BTW

They need at least one to soak Mail Agility gear. There are several guilds with multiple top notch Hunters that have rerolled other classes for the tier because Hunters aren't desired. Not having a raid cooldown to bring to the table is a huge deal these days. Ret pallies have awful DPS this tier and last tier but have no problem getting in to raids because BoP is so desired and powerful.

The difference with Mages though is that Sub is considered to be thé PvP spec for Rogues, and ís performing great in that environment. Arcane is not a PvP spec and it's not performing great anywhere, except for Nether Tempest cheese logs.

You call those inflated Nether Tempest scumbag DPS logs a proper indication of where the spec is at?

Arcane is too immobile to play correctly, especially in Heroic modes this tier. The Mage community has always been heavy on theorycrafting, there's a reason Arcane is represented this poorly and the logs that we do have are not representative at all.

Your logic is they need to gear up a class they have no intention of using so the gear doesn't go to waste?

That sounds like pretty terrible logic.

Yes all of us top guilds are clearly wrong for using this logic so that our great Hunter players aren't 40 ilvl behind come next tier. Think before you post. Heroic gear should never go to waste if it doesn't have to. There's obviously a reason exactly what I said is exactly what is happening.

Unholy is far superior for DK.

Or you could take the hunters when it becomes farm since if hunters are so bad it hinders progression then taking them would be dumb amirite?

Ya, progression guilds will not 'invest' in a specific class's gear during progression. It's about progression and downing the boss, not about potentially preparing for the next patch 3 months down the road where things "might be different" by said class.

If they truly wanted to do that, do all 1st kills with your best team (what all top guilds do) and once you have stuff on farm, that's where you gear up everyone else.
