Poll: Clicked on an ad and bought the product

    Ad's in their current form

I just had a curious poll I wanted to get people options on.
I want to know the number people that have adds active , when was the last time they saw an ad on any site that they actually clicked on and felt compelled to buy that product listed. Because I feel that ad’s considering the number of eyes they get are a total wastes of money.

Because I can't recall the last time I saw an ad and said “Oh I want that” providing though I have no expendable income either.

Adds aren't only designed to be impulse buys. They're also there in your way so that next time you go to make a purchase that image of that add you saw a few days ago is still on your mind.

Personally I have adblock because they get in the way, but ads on the internet are a lot like commercials. If you see a commercial for Doritos Locos Tacos it isn't supposed to make you run out of your house, drive to Taco Bell, and buy fifteen Doritos Locos Tacos, it's intended to make you think about it, so the next time you're driving around and you're hungry looking for lunch and you pass a Taco Bell you'll stop and order one.

Infomercials are different, they're usually intended to make you buy something on the phone on the spot, hence why they're usually longer and more in depth. But ads on the internet are much more like commercials.

No ads on the internet (adblock).. I literally haven't seen a commercial on TV since I haven't had cable in 6 or 8 years. Really the only advertising I get is radio and signs. But even then... nothing really compelled me, or even made me think about 'getting that' next time I had a chance. I'm no expert on psychology, but I think ther are proven 'fiscal benefits' to advertising, but they have to keep up with the times to be effective

Adblock always I kind of feel bad but I honestly can't remember the last time I saw an ad that appealed to me even with google's spiffy adsense or whatever it is.

Mr chazus, beyond product awareness it is really difficult to prove the effectiveness of advertising, or perhaps more specifically the magnitude of effectiveness. How persuasive can they be really? I would have said coke is really throwing their money into a pit with their advertising but are they really? I am almost sincere when I say there isn't a person alive who does not know what coke tastes like anywhere, so what are the ads for? Power of suggestion and all that but it is hard to nail down on your budget sheet when you are thinking about potential returns and the difficulty of measuring the benefit of it and other things like it are a well known and often mentioned issue if you study business finance.

I use adblock, however on the occasion I do see an ad like at work or something I would soon rather directly type in the websites name then click on an ad. Someone is making money off the ad and I refuse to give them the money just for clicking a link. I feel the same way about clicking on an ad as I do after I masturbate after looking at questionable porn... dirty and guilty.

When I had no ad-blocker, I didn't click on them. I now have an ad-blocker, not necessarily because adverts are annoying, but because it seems that most of the trojans and malwares come in via compromised adverts.

I mostly get crap ads when they come in banner form, like on here. "I wouldn't want to buy this"-crap that is, not "intrusive"-crap (MMO-C does a great job actively purging that type of ad). YouTube commercials sometimes end up as trailers for games or movies which I don't always know about prior (and end up buying/seeing), but most of the time I do know of them. I do adblock sites I don't frequent, though I doubt I'd see any worthwhile ads on there that don't reach me through the sites I don't block.

Ads make some websites load slow as well, even if you have really fast internet.

I have Adblock on Google Chrome but it doesn't seem to block most of the ads anymore. When I got a few months ago it blocked all the ads, but now its like less than 10% of them get blocked.

Adblock... Until sites can guarantee that they wont send malware through the ads, like this site has done several times, then ill guarantee my own safety.

Im also not going to let 20 flash ads and 2x video ads slow the connection to a crawl when all i want to do is read a few kb of text, on every page almost.

Ablock updated and changed it so certain ads still play, go into your adblock settings and uncheck the option that says allow unintrusive ads, that should make it block everything again.

Im using a combo of Adblock and Ghostery so i don't really get any ads anywhere except on reddit cause they are like the only site that dose it right.
Its a small still image on the right side of the screen no flashing bs with sound or what ever.

And the ad it almost always some what relevant to the website or something that is mildly interesting.
Like some cool looking abstract art so when you spot the ad you go Oh that's kinda neat i guess.

Compared to most other sites witch crams like 3+ ads on the site with huge banners on both the left and right side of the website.
And most of the times the ads are for some thing completely random and not at all relevant to the website i'm on.

They also tend to be animated most of the time to be as distracting as possible and its even worse when they add sound to them.
Which plays as soon as you get close to the ad with your cursor and don't get me started on the 12+ seconds of the non skippable ads on videos.

I've changed over to Avast's Ad Blocker, does a pretty good job and works for all the browsers.
