You know, it's sad in a way, though the Aztecs and the Mayans were kind of extremely violent, the Inca were a bit more rational, I read a bit about them, their empire could have rivaled those of our days with similar technology, they already had layed some aspects of an orderly society, taxing, redistribution of wealth, infrastructure, aqueducts etc.

Sorry to hear that... guess in the end greed won, their society was destroyed because of the greed of the colonists, and now they destroy themselves because of it too.

Near me there are two tribes, one is relatively successful...they own properties, rental estates, golf courses and casinos. Generally likeable and contribute to the area as a whole without playing the "oppressed reds" card all the time. The other tribe, live off the government entirely, live in shacks and trailers, steal shit all the time...they'll rent cars and drive them to the reservation where the police cannot do fuck all about it...and are generally useless drains on the economy in general.

The main thing with Wounded Knee that Bio did for me was putting it more into the timeline. A lot of these events are sort of taught in isolation (or were when I was in school many decades ago), so yeah you hear about Wounded Knee (1890), the Spanish-American War (1898) and such, but you really don't realize how recent they were compared to say, WW1 (1912) being "modern". Like someone drew a line in time and said "this stuff is old, this stuff is modern".

I think he's suggesting that these people aren't poor because of reasons beyond their ability to fix. That they're poor because they're lazy, while the other tribe is well off because they've worked hard to make that so. I don't know how true that is, but you've left out an entire dimension of what he said to make it sound worse than it was.

    Way to miss the point...

One tribe is actually working and contributing and being rewarded for that...the other is doing absolutely fuck all.

Most actually died to the diseases brought over by the aforementioned people, not the people themselves.

Rarely. Most died due to plagues that preceded the Europeans.

It's sad to say but most Indian Nation Reservations are rampant with drug abuse and child abuse. It's truly a shame. I am one eighth Cherokee and I'm proud of it. The family land is still where it was originally which is on the current border of Tennessee and North Carolina. If you don't know the Cherokee were the most compliant with the changes the Europeans brought. They created a written language, began to build homesteads, etc. So, if anything, the Cherokee were assimilated and stayed where they were. As for the other nations, some seen much worse fates.

If you don't know much about it I would suggest reading up on it. Two topics I find the most knowledgeable are the Trail of Tears and the early 1900's re-education schools for Native Americans. Talk about high grade indoctrination!

They didn't do this intentionally, until hundreds of years after the first european settlers had arrived.

I didn't report the guy, but I don't blame the mod. LMGTFY links are one of the most condescending prick-ish things people do on the internet.

I love the whole culture and history of the Native American people, they were wonderful spiritual people and the way they lived back in those days until they were wiped out... was what I'd call a wonderful way of life. The tribes we know/knew of are just a tiny fraction of the many many many that were wiped out. Thats humanity at it's lowest for you.

Living on reservations, living as private citizens, and, probably most commonly, integrated and mixed in with the rest of the assorted nationalities living in the United States.

The Native American way of life no longer applies to most of society, obviously, and so it's natural for that way of life to die off. Granted, a lot of them were killed off instead of dying off, but that's not what's happening anymore. I'm sure some of them still practice the old ways on certain reservations/private areas, but most are integrated into today's society and have mixed in with other races and cultures.

Tribes are like most gatherings of people, they varied a lot. Sure some were spiritual, just as others were constantly fighting and killing each other. The Aztec's don't seem like a friendly spiritual people to me...
