That was my point. Apparently every Native American tribe were war hungry savages according to some. Tarring with the brush.

People are too quick to point out the bad in people nowadays rather than the good. I didn't even mention war in my comment. There were some very nice tribes that don't deserve that sort of bad mouthing. yes even amongst tribes there were 'bad eggs' but their are assholes in every society.

    EDIT: after your edit

Most tribes still refer to themselves as Indians, and in fact some of their largest museums and monuments are labeled as "Indian".

Native American or Indian are the official US government designations, depending on what you're looking at.

I'd go with either of those prefered terms over Indigenous People of North America, even though it is also accurate. Besides, the Inuit, Aleut, and Yupik peoples would all fall under that umbrella, and they are not considered Indians, in their own self-determination or anthropologically.

No, but the idea that they all lived an idyllic wonderful way of life is just as much dross as the idea that they were all bloodthirsty savages. They lived, fought wars, loved, hated, etc. just as much as any other society, only they lacked a lot of the modern amenities I would have wanted in that time period, like paper, books, coffee, etc.

Well then I am sorry I could have worded my comment better I guess. I just thought your comment was a bit blunt and offensive but next time I will try to explain myself better.

There is a neat little piece of history about an Indian Chief named Charging Thunder who came to live in my home town after working at Buffalo Bill's shows here

A Blackfoot Sioux chief named Charging Thunder came to Salford at age 26 as part of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in 1903 . Like many Lakota tribesmen, Charging Thunder was an exceptional horseman and performed thrilling stunts in Buffalo Bill's show in front of huge crowds, on the site of what is now the Lowry in Salford Quays. But when the show rolled out of town, he remained in London. He married Josephine, an American horse trainer who had just given birth to their first child, Bessie and together they settled in Darwen, before moving to Gorton. His name was changed to George Edward Williams, after registering with the British immigration authorities to enable him to find work. Williams ended up as an elephant keeper at the Belle Vue Zoo. He died on July 28, 1929 from pneumonia at age fifty-two. His interment was in Gorton's cemetery.

As an aside why do many Americans claim to be a minority when they're either equally white or predominantly white? Like someone who is half asian or a quarter native will say they are asian or native instead of caucasian or mixed.

Then a bunch of people say they are ethnically German/Irish/Italian or whatever when all of their ancestors except their German/Irish/Italian grandfather were descendants of British settlers.

I assume its the same reason that someone who is half black and half white is treated as non-white. Because apparently to be white you have to be white-white. Like Irish white. But not Irish, those you need to beat down unless on St. Patricks day.

For those of you that think all Native Americans are poverty stricken drunks, I would like to submit http://500nations.com/Oklahoma_casinos_list.asp

Before you say "hurr durr casinos in Oklahoma", allow to educate you on the fact that we have one of the lowest, if not the lowest cost of living in the US. We don't live in shacks and watch the donkeys mill around all day. Here in Oklahoma City we have one of the largest and most cutting edge medical communities in the US. These doctors don't work for peanuts. Oh yeah, plus this little known basketball team called the Thunder. The point is, people here have a lot of disposable income, and believe me they are not afraid to spend it. And they love to gamble here. Scratch cards, lotto, casinos. The Native Americans here are cleaning up.

I used to live near the Elwha S'klallam tribe near Port Angeles, WA. I wish I could say it would be worth it to visit the reservation, but it is so dilapidated and many of the people there hold on to old racist mindsets and will hate and discriminate against you if you are not native.

Not all of the tribe is like that but they are a very vocal minority. I have met some very wonderful tribe members who want to keep the S'klallam language alive and teach the tribes' history but once again, they are a minority.

The reservation is government housing in the woods for the most part. Garbage everywhere, it is sad.

I think they were just protesters and he gave them his opinion, rather than them accusing him of being an alien. That said, if there was confusion it would most likely be an Arizona/ California thing, the Seminoles and such don't really look hispanic/ mexican.

It was presumably a rally against current-day illegal immigrants. The Native American was simply informing them of their ironic situation.

Lived in Florida my whole life, we have schools and mascots named after Indian tribes and yet I have never seen one. Well maybe one working at a walmart but yeah they're still rare here in Florida.
