    Too bad it isn't adjusted for cost of living index. All of this is really meaningless without it. $200 in a developing nation will take you a lot farther than $200 in an urban center in the U.S. This can differ radically even in developed nations. For example I spend a little over $500 a month on my mortgage for a 4 bed 2 bath with large yards in Wyoming. In Newyork that would probably not even get me a 1 bed/1bath. If I make $45,000 in Wyoming I probably have comparable purchasing power to someone making over $100,000 in New York City. This cost of living modified is even more radical when it is transferred from country to country.

    Cost of living modifiers don't cover everything(like luxury goods) but they almost always cover food, housing, energy, etc.
