SOAC Presents - Why should I care about eSports? Live at Noon.

Sittingonacouch.com is proud to be able to be able to feature Jonthan Sharp from Arenanet, Mike Chapman from Curse Gaming, Lunet from Towerdive.tv, and the one and only Grouch in SOAC Presents – Guild Wars 2 and Esports today in 4 hours at Noon PST.

Our goal is to talk to these guys about why it’s important for Arenanet to be involved in the esports scene. Are you asking yourself why should the pve, wvwvw, and casual players care? Are you concerned about the current pvp scene and it’s push to esports? Are you wondering what you need to do to be apart of esports? Are you worried that this will change the game you enjoy into some crazy hardcore pvp scene? Are you totally pumped about what’s going to happen this year, and find yourself screaming esports randomly?

Than tune into twitch.tv/soacgaming – We are ready to ask the questions and find out Why Anet wants to go to Esports and what they think can happen this year?

Today at Noon PST at http://www.twitch.tv/soacgaming! See you there!

    From the folks at mmorpg.com....

    Hey folks,

Normally I avoid cross-posting, but these tournaments have been such good fun that I couldn’t forgive myself if I deprived players of other parts of the game the opportunity to see what all buzz surrounding GW2’s growing PvP scene is about. That said, I don’t think you need to be a hardcore PvPer (or even a casual one) to enjoy the exciting gameplay we’ve been seeing in these tournaments. (This for example, anyone? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lkO0PZhp8Ea

This tournament will be a singe-elimination best-of-three format, with eight of the top teams duking it out for a winner-takes-all 10,000 gem prize-pool.
We’ll be kicking off the festivities on Sunday, May 26th, at 12 Pacific, with an exciting match-up between Made in Meta (Winners of the Masters of the Mists European Tournament last weekend) and Am I Mad. Check out the attachment below for the full tournament bracket.

You can find the livestream at Twitch.tv/mmorpgcom
    http://www.twitch.tv/mmorpgcom

Even if you don’t stop by tomorrow, you should definitely jump into Heart of the Mists sometime and give PvP another go. A lot has changed since launch, and I daresay it’s much more friendly for those just coming into the game.

    Thanks for reading!

Ive never watched a 'esport' before, and after this I never will again, really cant fathom how this is entertainment.

I have never watched esports before too. Maybe a few seconds of a SC2. But I do think there is great potential in Gw2, highlighting the word potential lol. I'm with a team myself trying to get higher on leaderboards for now. But I think that more than anything, it would be more entertaining from a pvp competitive nature. I watch some streams and much more the spectator modes (I'm a 1v1 fan) just to learn more and more. And even more than so, I think that if it gets big (IF) it will be a nice addon for newbies to pvp.

If this was your first experience, I personally don't blame you in the leeeast. Though personally I find StarCraft 2 solid, for both people extremely familiar to the genre (which LoL does well) as well as being visceral enough for people new to it (or have no idea) to be able to follow along easily (which LoL does terribly), with solid casters all around.

    ...and not this.

I find all video games pretty awful to watch. I can't fathom to watch anyone to play, I'd rather mow the lawn or something. But to each their own.

Just to add, dray might feel the same way as I do. I'm fully aware that there are things that I like to watch that others would feel as I do about watching video games.

It's funny because I rather watch e-sport than "real" sport. I'll improve by watching streams of GW2, COD, Halo, WoW, SC,... from real sports I won't so I'd rather just go out and actually do the sport.

  8. #168
Heh, I'm sort of the reverse, Mel. I much rather watch real sports than watch video games, but I quite enjoy playing video games (I also love to play sports as well but that is a different argument I suppose).

Oh definitely I personally couldnt fathom that as entertainment, but judging by the relative excitement of the commentators they seemed to enjoy it, im sure other's do to, its a bit like golf to me.
I think kelesti got it right, I used to watch some swifty videos which were montages of 3 v 3 arenas and you could follow it easily, team a kill team b, this was all over the place, my inexperience of spvp doesnt help but the game and commentators did very little to make this newbie friendly.

  10. #170
The commentators are just bad. Especially Blu imo. He doesn't get why teams try certain strats vs certain builds and then "bashes" them because they don't follow the "meta-strat". Grouch usually is OK but if you're co-casting it's hard to talk about "plays" since you don't know what/who the main-caster is looking at.

I'm 80% certain I could do a better job but sadly you can't just spectate games...

Introducing the Guild Wars 2 Authorized Shoutcaster Program

Hello! I’m Allie Murdock, the PvP Community Coordinator here at ArenaNet. With the beta release of Custom Arenas and Spectator Mode, we’ve seen a huge amount of tournaments spring up; many with great quality shoutcasting. It’s truly been a blast to listen to these Guild Wars 2 PvP shoutcasts, and that positive experience is one we will help perpetuate with our new Authorized Shoutcaster Program.

In the Guild Wars 2 Authorized Shoutcaster Program, when highly rated teams are matched-up in rated play, authorized shoutcasters will receive a notification and be allowed to enter that match as a live spectator to bring you all the action. Since the shoutcasters will be watching the matches live, their video streams will be delayed so that it doesn’t impact the results of the match.

In addition to being given the special privilege of entering into rated play, authorized shoutcasters will be given a Custom Arena to assist them in hosting matches and or creating their own shows.

The first set of authorized shoutcasters was selected based on their contributions to the PvP community via shoutcasting and a current list can be found on the Guild Wars 2 forums.

    https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/foru...aster-Program/

We’re all really excited about the Authorized Shoutcaster Program and its potential to highlight the best PvP players and their strategies. We’re always on the lookout for talented new shoutcasters to help entertain and educate new and professional players alike. If you’re interested in participating in the program, start shoutcasting, post a link to your live stream on the forums, and if we like what we see, we’ll contact you!

Thanks, and we’ll see you in-game!
