    Cpu-mobo

Hello everyone I am wanting to build a new computer I currently have the ram(32gb I know I don't need this much) I have the tower. Will be looking for a SSD and I will be using my current monters GPU mouse keyboard. So what I am looking for is a Mobo and a cpu that will play games very well, allow me to record and stream without affecting my performance much. Budget is 300-400, Please give me what the change in cost will give me I like to know what i'm buying is worth it.

Can you list the rest of the system, GPU / Powersupply?
    8700K (5GHz) - Z370 M5 - Mugen 5 - 16GB Tridentz 3200MHz - GTX 1070Ti Strix - NZXT S340E - Dell 24' 1440p (165Hz)

You're not going to be able to play games "very well" with a GTX 550 Ti, let alone stream while doing so.

What do you think would work then?

For basic streaming (i.e. 720p max), you're looking at ~$300 for an i7 3770K, ~$120 for a decent 1155 motherboard, and then another ~$230 for an upper-mid tier card like the 7870. So approximately $650 (probably more).

That will allow you to play games "very well" and stream them.

I'm also curious as to which "550 wat (sic) powersupply" you have.

Much less a 550, as he didn't say it was a TI or not.

But yes, you're not going to stream well on a 550 TI OR a 550. Also, what brand and model 550w is that? it should say on a sticker on the PSU itself.

Also, what ram do you have? If its DDR2, you'll need to get new ram as well.

That's fireworks hardware. You need a new power supply as well. Actually, you should get a new power supply even if you don't upgrade.

There's no such thing as a "GTX 550", so it's gotta be a 550 Ti assuming he's got the number right.

OP: That is an absolutely terrible power supply, you should never use a $20 PSU in a gaming rig, ever. So there's another part you'll have to purchase, add another $50 at least for a quality power supply (bringing your total to around $700 to achieve what you're wanting to achieve). Now I feel the need to ask: Are you sure your RAM will be compatible with new hardware?

Alright, so the RAM is compatible...

Still, let's run down what's been said thus far. To achieve what you want to achieve (playing current games "very well" and streaming while doing so), you'll need:

    1. An i7 3770 which goes for $330 on Newegg.
    2. A compatible motherboard, which costs about $120 for a quality one on Newegg.
    3. A new video card, I'd say a 7870 at the very least, you can pick one up for about $230 on Newegg.
    4. And a new power supply so that you don't fry everything in your computer with the bargain bin one your using now, which would cost at least $50 on Newegg.

That puts you at ~$730... Doing what you want to do on a $300-400 budget is unfortunately unrealistic.

I think there is only one "550", that being the GTX 550 Ti. I dont think there's any other type whatsoever. So any 550 is that, GT, GTX, Ti, non... all same thing.

Oh, I just meant.. sometimes stuff gets confused between some cards of "GTX" "GTS" and "GT".. .though I dont think nvidia uses that naming convention anymore to determine what the card is.

So, you spent $240 on ram, and $20 on a PSU? As noteworthy mentioned, don't skimp on a power supply, everything is useless without it.

I would sell 16gb of the ram, leaving you with 16gb. 16GB is more than enough. This would give you another $80-$100 to add to your budget.

I stream fine on an i5-2500k OC'd to 4.8ghz. Which could save another $100 instead of going with an i7.
