Do people actually read before they post? How will new models be a selling point when everyone will receive them when the game updates? They're not going to have one set of players running around with old models and another set of people with new models. It's like saying the new talent system will be a selling point, when everyone gets the talent update when 6.0 drops.

Why? how would that appeal at all? I'm not trying to be critical of the idea, I just do not understand where people are coming from when they say "I want the new class to be Dragon[Fill In The Blank]!" Like how would that really fit into Warcraft, where even when the Aspects still had their powers, rarely had dealings with the mortal races, not to mention they don't now. Also how would it tie in to the current expansion? We've already had our Dragon expansion. It honestly seems to me like the only reasoning for these "Dragon Classes" is to add something SUPER KEWL to WoW that wouldn't fit in any way whatsoever, in all honesty, it reminds me of WoWCrendor's "If fans ran World of Warcraft" video.

    Amen!

One thing I want is a new spec for a lot of classes. It's a really hard job and it'll take a shitton of time to tweak/balance, but it'd be neat!

Imagine the possibilities! Shaman tank, monk ranged, hunter w/o pet (1H Bows? *0* - or even a melee Rexxar-style Beastmaster spec), holy dps priest, int-based DK (maybe ranged? something necromancer-like? idk), or even a battle-mage!

I know I'm just dreaming and most of the things I want are impossible or at least just too hard and unnecessary to be worth the work, but I just love the idea of the 4th spec.

y'know that everyone can roll a pandaren, even non-MOP accounts, right

IMHO new classes aren't really necessary, nor are new races. There's plenty of design space that could be filled with the standing classes, with arguably the exception of a tech-based class (inc Engineer/Tinker). We already have a great variety of playable races as-is. The time they spend creating abilities, concepts and balancing for a new class could be just as easily spent embellishing the standing classes, whose customisation is razor-thin at the moment.

How many choices do you make when making a level 90 character? Specialisation, 6x1 of 3 talents, 3 major glyphs, 3 minor glyphs, race, and 2 professions. That's absolutely nothing. Do you really want another razor-thin set of selections for a new alt?
If you are particularly bold, you could use a Shiny Ditto. Do keep in mind though, this will infuriate your opponents due to Ditto's beauty. Please do not use Shiny Ditto. You have been warned.

That was a new race. You can lock a new race out until someone purchases an expansion. You can't do that for a model update.

No, you DIDN'T need the expansion to roll a Pandaren, yet it was a huge selling point for MoP.

That was done because there was also a new class. You still need the MoP update to play as a monk. Again, the selling point of the new expansion, along with the new continent, and the new level cap.

The point is that a new expansions' main selling point isn't going to be something that everyone gets in the 6.0 update. It almost has to be a new class.

how about this for a new expansion's selling point
"we spent all our time making this expansion REALLY GODDAMN GOOD
    so it'll be like
tbc and wotlk and mop all smushed together
using their strengths and eradicating their weaknesses"
and it's awesome fun and you should come play with all your new toys and stuff and explore this fantastical new set of zones we implemented

how many people went OH MY GOD MONKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ARE IN THE GAME I HAVE TO BUY IT

expansions are like steaks and new classes are like seasoning
a good steak with good seasoning can be really delicious
but if the chef is spending so much time paying attention to getting his seasoning just right that he overcooks the steak i'd honestly just rather he cook the steak perfectly rather than screw around with his fancy little spices

You know, I don't think that a new race/class would even be the big major selling point for an expansion... it hasn't been previously, it has just been something that has come along, a big feature but not the main one. Why would people even want a new race/class? If anything the fact we've had one or the other or both for every previous expansion should be a major reason NOT to do it, after all I want the next big thing to be something that builds on what we have rather than just throwing more new crap into the mix.

I doubt they would ever bring out a class new expansion. Reasoning being they already have a hard enough time balancing classes, why would they make it even harder for themselves? I think seeing a third faction appear is more likely than classes that often, and even that I doubt.

So by your logic, a new race or 2 new races will never be the selling point of an expansion if they don't come with a class?

You know...I dont really ever remember Monks be the major selling point of MoP, I remember it being the new land, new atmosphere and most of all the war.

Yeah, it was Monks, Pandaria, pet battles, level cap, and the new dungeons and raids. New continents, new level cap, new dungeons, and new raids are a given. Classes or races are the variables. It's either one or the other or both.

No. By my logic, if you're bringing out a race and a class in the same expansion, you can afford to give one of them for free. They chose the race in that case.

That isn't the point. The point is that a free feature (new models) isn't going to be game's selling feature.

Going forward, it is much more likely that we will see 1-2 new races than another class (or 4 specs for every class, for that matter) in any given future expansion.

Bloat is a real threat as the game ages. There's only so many playstyle niches, and the 37 existing specs have very nearly saturated those niches. However, there's substantially more room for more races than for more classes/specs before the respective playstyle saturation point is reached, because race has virtually nothing to do with how a character plays (so there are no concerns with ability or playstyle overlap--just an art requirement).

I don't believe there is room in the game for more than just one more class--possibly another 'hero' class, and maybe a few additional 4th specs for existing classes.

    Edit:
Also, simply having new (compelling) content to do is a completely valid and sufficient selling point to push an expansion.

I don't see how there's literally a single possible relevant thing to discuss about this subject anymore...or why anybody even cares when this theoretical situation is still far far off in the distance and already there isn't a single possible new thought on the topic.
