I just want some help here

So, I came on here a week ago, asked if Alienware was worth it, because I'm in a desperate need to get a new gaming computer. Lets just say I was talked out of it. (more like felt stupid and peer pressured into not buying one). But! That's probably for the best anyways.

So, today my GPU fried. Kinda pissed about it, but whatever, It gives me incentive to upgrade my computer.

    This is my current specs.
AMD Anthlon II X2 260 processor 3.20 ghz
    8gb RAM
    AMD Radeon Hd 6670(DEAD)
    Mother board: M68MT-S2
    700 watt power supply.

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and CPU

I've thought about for my cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727

I don't mind AMD, nor do I really care which processor is in my comp's belly, just as long as It plays my games. If there are any other CPU's to recommend, gladly do so. In fact, any advice on what to get is needed. I'm working with about a max $500 budget. Less is best, but If it's needed thats OK.

Now for my GPU, I kinda want a Radeon 7870, but I've come to understand that my MB does not work with it, so, If there aren't any GPU's that are not as equivilant in "Kick ass" as this, then. . .well, if anyone can recommend me It I would be glad. But in the event I do need to change MB, the MB I would get would be http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131795

It's a big jump from my now deceased GPU. But I just want to figure this all out, order all my parts this/next week, and be done and back to gaming.

Thanks guys, and lets not have a huge/heated debate here.

Why wouldn't the 7870 work with your motherboard? It should. PCI Express 3.0 cards are backwards compatible with 2.0 and 1.1/1.0 like usb 3.0 to 2.0 etc. This cpu is still okay to play WoW so just start upgrading the graphics card for now on. Decide later if you need a better cpu to get more performance.

Yeah.. a 7870XT would be a good choice... And then maybe look into a haswell board/cpu in a few months, with a bit more money. Then you'll be rocking.

If you can afford it, roll it.

For WoW a 7950 is overkill and feature proof is BS because this game barely gets better graphics..

I play other games too. Mostly Wow, but I would like a smooth pvp game.

You need a new card yes but your cpu will still limit the performance of it. Soon Intel's new cpu line is coming out Haswell, keep an eye for it.
