Class quest for mage : in need for idea

After the green fire class quest for Warlock, Blizzard will make equivalent for other class (but not quickly).

If green fire and a epic quest in Black Temple look good for Warlock.
Some class are easy for this. Drood can obtain some epic Form after a quest in the Emerald dream. Paladin can do something with the rest of the scourge in Ice crown.

But what will it be for mage ?
An Epic quest in Nexus and the possibility to take the form of a blue dragon. Oops, it's already taken ...
Some work for the Kirin-Tor in Dalaran ? But it will be an Epic escape from violet hold for Horde mage ...

My idea would be for something involving Karazan and Medivh.
But I really have no idea for some symbolic reward, like the fel fire for warlock.

    Time for good idea !!!

Raven form. Or even Atish staff skin, with in-built raven transform.

    Vending Machine form.
We get a spell to turn us into our truest of forms, the Vending Machine.
Each spec will have a different style to it.
Frost will be an Ice Cream Machine and shoot out pudding pops to players and damaging enemies.
Fire will be a Pastry Machine and spit out steamy hot Biscuits.
Arcane will be a Soda Machine and just keep your money.

Maybe, it's time for me to switch to Arcane ...

After some reflection I can see a few things that can by iconic reward :
    • news teleports spell (not really epic but very iconic)
    • news polymorph spell (not epic at all but even more iconic and a good joke from Blizzard)
    • graphical aura for "mage" armor (blue mist for frost, flame like for molten, arcan'style for mage armor)
    • a Arcane servant like the arcane elemental of Khadgar in Shattrath.

How about something with Archmage Xylem as the enemy? The Azshara quest lines seem to imply he's going insane. Maybe Khadgar summons you (or you find an item leading you too him, however they decide to do the drop mechanic) and you learn of some trouble started by Xylem. You hunt him and end up in Tempest Keep but like the Warlock questline it's modified for the scenario to be full of traps set by Xylem. Maybe we could fight 3 of his apprentices, 1 of each spec, in each of the TK boss rooms to open KT's room. You finally find him after overcoming the challenges to find he has one of Kael'thas' Verdant Sphere's and is performing some ritual to drain its power.

Verdant Sphere's are what Kael'thas had around him, the RPG explains they are sought after by mages because they enhance the range and power of their spells. They contain the souls of slain enemies. Now in draining/performing this ritual he's drawing the Burning Legion too him (remember they hunt Magic use) and so the fight is on to both stop him completing the ritual and preventing any demons able to cross through the Twisting Nether into Outlands from escaping. Perhaps the Demon angle isn't needed and it could just be to stop him draining the sphere and unleashing the trapped souls.

The fight would be him cycling through various stances (denoted by him changing armour) of the three mage specs and having to deal with each one whilst at the same time dealing with the demons/souls he's summoning/releasing. He grows in power over the fight as he drains more and more from the Verdant Sphere before you finally stop him.

The reward would be the Drained/Cracked Verdant Sphere item. This could enhance spells or whatever, and maybe we could also get the Archmage title.

Pff.. you guys aren't thinking big enough.

The only thing that could ever compare to the Lock green fire quest (which, if I do say so myself, was proper epic) would be if mages got a quest where at the end they got their very own Mage Tower (maybe as a spire in Dalaran?).

It would probably need to be instanced but you could 'invite' people to your tower to check it out. It would be your own tower with its own special storage space. It could even have a few NPCs (probably start out with one or two just general vendors but can 'upgrade' to better NPCs like specialists and transmog NPCs and upgrade vendors and AH NPCs).

Within the tower a mage could have many things, e.g. a target dummy to practice, and maybe even a special summoning station where you could summon NPCs to fight and/or test spells on.

Mages and Wizards have long been identified by their "Towers". Xylem has his own tower. Many other prominent mages in WoW lore have their own towers (heck even Jaina had one before it got nuked). Its high time the mage player gets one of his own. Naturally, the mage would be able to portal to his tower, and in fact the portal to the tower is the only way to get to it (kind of how the The Schools of Arcane Magic - Mastery teleports you to the secret spire in Dalaran).

The other thing I think would be cool is if the tower quest came with a whole set of "fun non-combat" mage spells. Like a complete array of fun spells like illusion and slow fall and what not. They could make spells that levitate the mage, or even let him fly! They could have spells that hover lights on/around targets (kind of like letting mages 'mark' targets like they used to with detect magic back in the day).
There could even be other random non-combat utility spells, like detect magic itself, that maybe you can cast on a target and get some extra info about it (e.g. how hunters have the "beast lore" spell that tells you extra info about animals for example, it tells you what abilities they have etc.. mages could get a Humanoid version that maybe could also tell what abilities an NPC has (and which ones are steal-able etc) as well as other semi useful information.

Basically, the quest would put a whole lot of "magic" back in the mage class. It will give the mage his own 'space' in the WoW world. Something to call his own and to organize and customize to his own liking. I mean seriously, which mage doesn't want their own tower where they can run all sorts of magical experiments?

So yea.. its like class quests and player housing got together and had a long, late, night of passion and out came the Mage Tower idea.

You can thank me later. xD

Actually I'm thinking Blue Dragons might be pretty awesome. A quest where you help the Blues and end up being one of the few mortals they trust. Maybe something with Azuregos, he's brilliant in the Azshara questline.

Fel Fire is something that Warlocks craved for years. Mages don't have such a specific desire. Or do I dare say it - a Phoenix? =) Some kind of Fire Orb spell reintroduction with a Phoenix model replacing the old one if finished the epic questline. It would suit Fire spec mostly, but Fel Fire isn't used among all 3 Lock specs either (or so I believe). For Frost they could add an option to turn your Water Elemental into a passive buff with a wisp familliar graphic, like in D3. Arcane Mages could have a new spell animation for Arcane Blast. All in all it could be something available for all Mage specs. Some kind of pure magic flying mount/form. Or being able to open portals to a specific spot on a map (or just to all flight paths). Whatever they do, I hope it won't be yet another Polymorph model.

Why dont you guys get it?

WE NEED A MAGE TOWER! A MAGE TOWER OF OUR VERY OWN!

Heck they can even make the inside like the inside of all the other mage towers in the game with the spiral staircase. But just have cool stuff inside for mages!

    AND SPELL MORE FUN SPELLS!

    Now I feel like I want a pony... :*( Q_Q

Except from ZomG, all proposition are pretty dull. Even if I think that mage tower player's housing chance to exist is near 0. But it's a very original idea.

Why warlock did have this quest made to give them Fel fire ?
It's a global player demand for a long time.
It's only graphical and can show : "I'm a warlock; I cast fire that corrupt everything."

Now, what the mage equivalent to this ?
If it's not a mage tower, I would vote for Archmage title.

    Go go idea !!!

Bring back old school vanilla rolling ignites. were scorch spamming was godly dps. j/k

Creating a spell effect like warlocks fel fire. but instead fireballs/pyroblasts are small flaming phoenix's flying at the boss or something to that degree.

Didn't like the new vision of class quests for Warlock (green fire) at all. I wouldn't want to see a Mage incarnation if it. Maybe the old style quests if we had more of them. IE: farm certain mats, travel to obscure locations, gather groups to help vs enemies etc.

I really liked the green fire quest, was fun and gave a lot of lore that tied into the talents plus the scenario was awesome. 4 of the talents in your tree actually have flavour text added once you complete it all.

Archamage title was suppose to be given to realm first mage lvl 70 in TBC if i remember correctly. All classes had some good titles there, they should bring those titles back! After completing an epic class quest ofcourse

Sorry to be the one to burst your bubble, but nowhere has blizzard said every class would eventually get a class quest like warlocks just did. Green Fire happened because it was something people have been crying for for years now. The closest they said to it was if in the future the moment was right and there is serious need for it, another one might be considered.

    Not confirmed..
