Im not gonna lie that i simply lost track of lost story line at some point and considered it as big "JUST AS PLANNED" kind of situation. Besides this kind of paradox isnt really unique. If you think about it master in very first fallout game, is portaited as sick psycho, but more you learn about him, the more you think he is infact much better than brotherhood of steel and rest of human assholes.

Even though she fulfilled her mission one way or another. But she did really CAPTURED him all by herself and group of elite Wardens until Kael'thas and Lady Varj found them. She is extremely dedicated to her job. That is what made her so epic character! And that was what Night elves were once !

Not evil. Misguided. He was truly believing he was helping.

MAiev is surely not Lesbian. Then what to say about Tyrande she has relation only with Priestesses. Malfurion is like Dolly called Husband. LoL he is the biggest Pus*y ever written in Warcraft Lore !

Maiev has just destroyed personality and hungers only for vengeance anfter 10 000 years without personality surely she will not care about male or female !

Her only cure is his brother! and Healing of Druids and PRiesteses of Elune. Maiev has very interesting and strong character that can be developed very well as a Leader of Night Elves.
This is how I would like the lore of the night elves was developed, particularly in relation to the character of Maiev Shadowsong:

Maiev Shadowsong will accomplish something that neither the Archdruid nor the High Priestess expected: divide and polarize the night elves society.

They are every day more the night elves who openly support Maiev for her pragmatic way of looking at things. Many people want that the Kal'dorei society return to their druidic origins and their devotion to Elune, a night elven society free of magic, free of moral decay, free of servility and obligations towards other races and with the courage and determination necessary to fight the evils that ravage their people and their forests.

Maiev and her followers do not approve the weak leadership of Malfurion and Tyrande, thinking that only thing they do is turn their race into mere servants of the Alliance and that they are not really struggling with all their might against the continuous attacks of the Horde on their territories. Also they are destroying their ancient beliefs by accepting back to the Highborne between them and other races, once marginalized, as the worgen.

The patience of the authentic Kal'dorei is running out, and Maiev will be the means by which that frustration will be released: continuous attacks against the Highborne, many protests against the Archdruid and the High Priestess, insubordination and general rudeness against other Alliance races... all this being just the beginning: if Malfurion and Tyrande do not react soon, civil war is imminent.

But that's not all, the Highborne, seeing the temperance and the passivity with which the night elves treat their persecution by Maiev supporters, consider the offer of a people who know quite well their problems, since at the end of the day are their heirs in Azeroth of today: the Blood Elves. Thus, thanks to the Sin'dorei, the Highborne pledge allegiance to the Horde in exchange for protection and asylum, which the Alliance failed to provide them.

Under such conditions, Malfurion and Tyrande are forced to negotiate with Maiev to prevent the disintegration of the Kal'dorei people. After this negotiation, Maiev and her people promise to remain loyal to the Archdruid and the High Priestess as the night elven society leaders, though in exchange they must eradicate all traces of magic in their ranks, return to their ancestral customs and they should also to distance themselves from the Alliance and its interests, maintaining only a relationship of mutual interest regarding the other races of the Alliance.

In other words, with this covenant is maintained a weakened link between the Night Elves and the Alliance while night elven society gains in independence and own personality, something that all the night elves celebrate. A new era begins: an era in which the Kal'dorei resurface at the image and likeness of their ancestors.

Clap clap clap !! Good theory.

But I Like mine too My theory.

One is obvious that Leaders of Night Elves are failing their people and driving them into "slavery" to Alliance. Night elves almost lost their own will (which was so bright pre WoW period). They became servants to Humans. Maiev is only character left out there who remains loyal to old traditions and views of Night elves. She didnt lost her will, thats wy Malfurion and Tyrande dislike her she is one Iron LADY !

That's the problem of all heroes vs. villains stories - villains often just want to change the world for the better, while "heroes" want to stop them at any cost just because.

Yes, and sadly heroes are yet to realise sad truth.
"If a man dedicates his life to good deeds and welfare of others, he will die unthanked and unremembered. If he exercises his genius bringing misery and death to bilions, his name will echo through the milenia for a hundred lifetimes. Infamy is always more preferable to ignominy." - Fabius Bile.

Now come think of it, the true reason why "heroes" strive to leave the world unchanged is because if the world would change, the writer would have to switch his brain on and think the setting through. And who wants to strain the brain? Also, not every reader would want to comprehend the world formed by consequences of implementing some idea, for example the world of undead or a world of demonic synthesis (blood elf early TBC theme evolved). Too difficult.

Pretty much this, that's kinda the reason why planescape torment despite being praised as best story driven RPG ever made, was infact failure compared to icewind dale and BG series. The game have incredible feel, amazing characters and really good plot but who the hell wants a hour long dialogue with ravel the grey hag ? + Omg main character is actually pretty assholish and evil - unthinkable !!!. Yeah we gonna probably stick to happy-chappy elves and humans beating the bad guys.

Playing it right now! But damn do I have to struggle with the whole AD&D mechanic after all those Dragon Ages and Mass Effects. Oldschool had good stories, but terrible gameplay. Have you played Bard's Tale? Mostly an Action-RPG akin to Diablo, but the protagonist and narrative are awesome. The Bard himself is a deliberate asshole, dialogues and cutscenes are full of lulz. In two out of three endings, the world burns. In one of them it is because the Bard just says "you know what, screw this!" right before the Black Castle of Evil, turns back and goes to drink some beer in the nearest tavern as the world is burning and the customers are slain right next to him (but he doesn't give a fuck).

Don't forget to update your journal. And yes i played bards tale (both versions), quite the amazing game, loved "you've been served moment" with dancing zombies.
That being said im playing arcanum right now and holy shit this game has more complexity that dragon age and mass effect (all parts) all together. Sadly right now we are turning to content scaled properly to your level (since dying in games isnt fun). And removal of character customization (since we dont want you to make wrong decision - not fun again). God fuck industry.
