Forgot the name of this structure in chemistry.

    http://itech.dickinson.edu/chemistry.../morphine1.png

That's an example of the morphine structure, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the bottom group is called? It's the one that looks like benzene, with an alcohol group (- OH) without the double bonds (you call it that in english?).

I was just wondering, as the name seems to have escaped me, I'll probably remember it soon anyway

PS: why doesn't this forum have a chemistry thread? :/

Looks like an unsaturated cyclohexane ring, but my chemistry is a bit rusty from HS lol

Looks like Phenol to me (if you discount the double bond). Took me literally 30 seconds on wikipedia.

Edit: This is the page it's on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aromatic_hydrocarbons http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenol

Cyclic hexane? Something along those lines I think. Don't take my word for it though. It's been a long time since university.

Phenol binds to benzene (an OH group bound to a benzene ring), I'm asking the name of the ring with only one double bond, which is not aromatic.

    That's what I thought too, but a google didn't help :/

    *edit
Nevermind, I completely forgot the basics lol. Double bond means it's an alkene, not an alkane, sigh.

Thanks for the quick answers anyway

Its name is Cyclohexene in case anyone cared to know.

OP's question has been answered and since this is kind of a "do my homework for me" thread, it kinda of starts out like that anyway, I'm just going to close it now since those aren't permitted.
