Well I guess this means, time to level my mage again
Although hunters were not the greatest this tier, I do believe the ptr changes are enough to make them competitive enough to bring multiple in a raid. We have 3 main hunters going into next tier and if they aren't as good as I expect, I will probably just stay on warlock but we will still have 2. With the ptr results I have seen, I will actually be surprised if the buff stays at 10% ap and won't be nerfed to 5%.

as long as hunter does not recieve a multitarget dot or cleave mechanik that allows for bridging the gap between single target and aoe, hunters will get buffed and nerfed like the tide goes in and out in an endless circle. this basically screams "total overhaul" and usually doesnt happen in the midst of an expansion (happend to ret in cata though, so it isnt impossible).
Doesn't every class get buffed and nerfed constantly?
I'm not sure if most of you played on beta but during that, beast cleave was at 70% and it was ridiculously overpowered. Between survival multi dotting for targets that are spread and beast cleave for stacked targets, I would not worry about hunter multi dot/cleave capability. The survival dotting won't be as good as a regular dot class but our single target damage with the buffs should make up for it.
basically what i mean becomes apparent when you take a look at strong classes. that would be lock and shadow for the range dps which we somewhat belong to. those classes have a single target priority, a multi target priority for 2-x targets and a aoe priority for x and above. usually the multi target priority involves doting up several targets and sometimes forcing procs with that, such as insta spells and whatnot. hunters dont get more focus from doting up aditional targets, as the effect is limited by an internal cooldown, same as black arrow and lnl (if you could actually keep 2 ba up, appart from the one after readiness).
this field, multi target dmg, is what the majority of encounters is about. just look at it: horridon, council, tortos, megaera (more single target dps, due to procs from multi dots), jikun, durumu (colorbeam phase), and so on and so forth.
there are changes to every class, sure. but the way blizz sometimes handles this issue is like a foreman giving his worker a bigger hammer instead of a wrench to fix a leaking faucet. at some point he realises this did more harm then good to the overall sceme of things and revokes the right to the biggest hammer, infuriating the worker who now feels entitled to the biggest hammer and who still lacks a wrench. that problem isnt hunter exclusive, but still plenty annoying.
to be fair, theyve become smarter about the issue, they dont hand out that hammer that easy anymore.
There isn't a problem with being middle of the pack, everyone should be there.
