Unholy DK: Build 16911 - New Sims

Just implemented the new changes in simcraft, looks to be about a ~7k increase in dps.

    Old: (Live)
    http://hostr.co/file/L2LPUMwvuxDO/Sc...t-21.05.07.png

    New: (PTR)
    http://hostr.co/file/dTzR4kSkkncf/Sc...t-21.05.35.png

Do note that this was without altering the priority list, looks like SS now does more DPET than DnD and we will most likely not use it in our single target rotation anymore.

which priority list did you go with?

    Default T15 heroic one. (Non-festerblight)

run it with that too, imo :P

The new sim makes no sense. SS DPET = 91640 , New SS DPET = 119109. That's a 30% increase, not a 22% increase. Just pure math shows about 2.9% increase for traditional unholy, or 1% for Festerblight (in non-existent patchwerk-land).

It's a relief to know we're getting randomly buffed, not as if this will kill festerblight, just an arbitrary buff that achieved little. It might put them a bit closer together but unholy was already perfectly viable without festerblight in the first place.

Perhaps they are trying to make Unholy more viable at lower ilvls where its mostly dominated by Frost.

Things like trinkets, mastery, boss damage debuff/buffs, crit, and the like can increase this. It's a 22% increase to the base SS, but other factors can increase the damage and DPET of SS as well. This is also true for pretty much any spell.

How low are we talking? Around 500 they feel around the same. I hardly think game balance is built around old tier LFR gear anymore.

You'd have a hard time convincing anyone festerblight is retarded, since you're probably stuck at 6/13 at best.

Festerblight damage is too high already. No way is it Blizzards intent to buff it. These changes either won't go live, or will be followed by a disease nerf.

How is it too high, it still doesn't hold up against strong ranged classes, we are high for melee but casters like Locks and Mages are still better.
I agree its odd they are randomly buffing Unholy, but its not like Festerblight is overpowered in any way shape or form

    Pretty much this.
Festerblight is fine compare to the other melee classes, sure it can shine more than others on X boss, but so can rogues on a boss like Jin'Rohk.

Here's an updated list of every spec: (Warlocks and Frost/Arcane mages missing due to being bugged in SC atm)

    - Feral druid 40% SR

All of those things applied to the old Scourge Strike too. Any percentage buff from another source will mean exactly a 22% increase in SS damage from what it was before. If anything, the final difference should be less than that if there are any non-percentage modifiers to SS (I don't know if there are).

    x * 1.22 = 22% increase over x
    (x * a bunch of modifiers) * 1.22 = 22% increase over (x * a bunch of modifiers)

Maybe if you'd adjusted the action list based on the change to somehow favor SS more, or use it with procs better, you could see a bigger change, but we're talking about the exact same action list played out, and the only difference is SS does 22% more damage.

It destroys all other melee on Horridon, Council and Tortos. It is top 5 on every other fight except Primordius, which sucks for all melee, and there aren't enough parses for Twins, Animus or Lei Shen to get a decent assessment. Ignoring cloth DPS (which have different standards than other specs), unholy is too high. It is consistently one of the top specs on every fight and it beats frost by >25% on every fight. If anything frost needs a buff, not unholy. Blizzard will not let a plate DPS spec perform that well for very long without dishing out a nerf.

Which is interesting because that sim list looks NOTHING like current actual parse rankings.

festerblight isn't on top for those fights. I hope you know it's just aoe with dots. You could fb them but no one does. It's not worth it. So your argument is invalid.

WoL doesn't differentiate between festerblight and "standard" unholy, so it doesn't matter which playstyle is highest on a particular encounter. I am referring to unholy as a whole, and it is currently an outlier.
