And it's not so much lawsuits as it is certain medications being restricted to how many doses you can receive in a specific period of time. It's mainly for things like pain killers, but covers other various drugs. A doctor will write a script for a 30 day supply, and under law, you can't get another refill for at least another 30 days. Some people try to beat the system by getting multiple scripts from multiple doctors and trying to get extra pills to take/sell. But since there is a pharmacy data base, the chain stores have managed to cut down on that type of issue.

Our FDA is much more restrictive on medications than a lot of EU countries, so really just a way for doctors and pharmacists to work within the confines of the law. Lawsuits come about when people get the wrong meds because pills might look similar and a pharmacist wasn't paying attention.
Is it fully electronical, by this meaning the prescription never takes paper form, doctor just fills out a form on their computer and it shows up on pharmacys database immediately?
Rest of it sounds the same as it is here, with the exception that we provide the meds in their own packaging and don't fill a cup like you do if I'm not mistaken, and thus there are really no mix-ups.

It can be done paper, called in, or done electronically. Certain medications require a written prescription though.
