Sorry this just made me laugh really hard...

But for the OP,i don't believe that first comment was rude, he may have seen it that way, but eh oh well. As far as helping people in randoms its mostly useless, the people that want help or are willing to help usually respond to just the raid chat...if they don't I never go whispering anyone anymore cuz it usually turns out like that, sorry on the bad luck man

I'm not saying you are wrong in the point you made, but you are really wasting your time approaching people in a quite rude way and expecting them to respond in a way that will please you.
Pretty much this. As the old saying goes, "you catch my flies with honey..."

But this is WoW. I'd bet my pay check that this mage would've still been an ass either way. I too am tired of the "you want to win? Go RBG. GTFO my random." I enjoy winning, I don't know who doesn't... but it's this "ME ME ME ME ME ME!!!!" mentality that is why random BGs, and LFG and LFR, have been a problem. It's nothing that Blizzard does, or doesn't do -- it's the players that are in them.

Right... because if you're the in the minority of people who know what they're doing for 7 BGs in a row -- it's YOUR fault.

I've been in BGs with numbers of other friends, and we've still lost in BGs due to self-centered attitudes from the other players.

Gotta love the "go to RBG" people. I've seen bigger idiots and more mouthy know it alls in PUG RGBs than I've ever met in randoms. Hell, some people I've on trials when they should just stfu and play as best as they can just have a brain meltdown and start derping over the place. When it comes to randoms I learned long ago if it gets to a point when you start then it's best to log out for an hour and do something else. Arguing with fools is never productive.

Yeah, I really want to hear that person's advice after hearing that...
That's definitely a wonderful example, because you obviously both queued for "walking down the street" together, and if he doesn't tie his shoelaces properly, you're definitely wasting your time and everyone on the street will receive no honor if he doesn't.

If you pay attention, Blizzard designs most battlegrounds with intelligence checks. In AV Horde side, if you don't see that IB is a natural choke point and you don't defend it you deserve to get beat. Hell, Blizz even put a broken tank in the road at about the exact spot where you should defend. In EoTS the flag is nothing but a distraction. The smart players realize that bases = win and the ADD kiddies say 'ooh shiny!'

Try telling them what they did wrong or how to improve instead of arrogance and condensation. Makes a world of difference.
As for people calling me arrogant/condescending, well, that is your opinion which you are entitled to. I guess I could have come off more polite in the original whisper (which can be interpreted as condescending, even though it wasn't meant to be that). I will have to be more careful next time.
Its not about polite... Its about providing constructive criticism, telling them how to improve, or what they did wrong, rather then asking condescending questions, telling them what they plan, and calling them names.

If only that were true, my friend. My experiences point strongly in the other direction. Or rather, both ways almost never, if not never, work. I truly can't remember the last time someone actually changed what they were doing due to myself or someone else kindly pointing out what they could do better in a random bg. And trust me, I try.

oh, it was meant to be. trust me. no need to backpaddle now. the word "tard" in your second whisper did not make it better. :-)

I am not backpaddling, on the contrary I admitted I could have approached the situation differently.

In 2nd whisper he had basically told me to f••• off so I was not really trying anything constructive at that point.

my advice would be when you decide to open your chat box, close it promptly without writing. that's how you handle random bgs/lfr.

I think the biggest problem is, you singled out one person out of 13 others that were fighting in the middle. It's really no wonder you got that reaction.

That's not to say, people don't want to win or follow directions in random bgs. I've had some great random games recently, which were way more fun than rated. That was simply a bad game. A lot of random bgs now a days are won or lost based on healers and how many of the opposite team are together in a organized group sadly. I think a lot of randoms can get discouraged, especially if they are on a 7 lose streak, just like you were and say to hell with it, and mess around in the middle like with that eots. Doesn't make it right of course.

I do think that most people respond better to better attitude. I've seen a lot of people screaming "DO THIS, DO THAT, YOU ALL SUCK" ect in random bgs and i'm personally tired of reading it, so i wouldn't be surprised if others were as well.

That guy did his job - capping flag. But you OP sitting in your single base so proud of it, didn't even try to cap other bases but lecturing other people how they play... It's your (and people like you) fault your team suck. You know there's other objectives in eots than capping single base and turtling there.

Unfortunately there is too much reward for a loss.
If you do not want to win, if you do not actually want to contribute meaningfully then go make a wargame.
That way you can screw around as much as you want without ruining the experience for those who did not choose to get grouped with you.

Someone trying to give instruction or guidance towards a win is not the arrogant one, but the one who refuses is.
The one who forgets that a battleground should be about the team result, not individual humping of the scoreboard or damage meters.

    This.

If I queued for a BG to have fun and global people with no desire to win or farm honor then I will do whatever I please. You don't see people queuing LFR and spamming in raid chat about doing heroic mode tactics for bosses.

It's more like if you queue up for LFR you go in and ninja pull bosses to cause wipes and yell : I do whatever I want, my time - my fun. I just want to shoot lasers out of my finger tops, I don't care for loot or killing bosses.

Just go to a target dummy or duel outside Org/SW if you don't care about the objectives in raid/dungeons/pvp.
