I noticed your post was caught in the spam filter, sorry about that! All fixed now though. Moved the thread to the proper sub-forum as well.

If you post broken links I can "repair" them for you!

  3. #3
It's just wont let me post any links, it says I have to have posted a few times before I can post links/images or videos

  4. #4
You are below the minimum required posts to post links, that's why Marest recommended posting a broken link, for example: www. google. com

    Ahh ok, ty

Is there anything else I need to build the computer? It's mostly going to be used for gaming and streaming.

Do I need any cables screws or anything else, or does that all come with those parts?

    Hold up, first things first:

    1) CPU will not work with that motherboard, wrong socket.
    2) PSU is waaaaay overkill.
    3) Case is very budget-oriented and while it's fine for the price, it's not something you'll enjoy working with in the long run.

Can you please give us a rough budget in $$ i.e. how much are you planning to spend here?
Oh and also what parts you already have, don't need to link them, just the brand/model will do.

Neat, that makes things simple (for us) :P

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz ($189.99 @ Microcenter)

    Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 ($114.99 @ Newegg)

The above is just a recommendation for the parts in terms of brand/model to show you what you can get for your budget. PCPartPicker simply finds the cheapest stores, but I made sure everything there is available on Amazon (do a manual search) and if not that then at least Newegg.
Your budget was roomy for a nice SSD so I'd be doing a disservice if I didn't recommend you an SSD lol, it's the single-biggest performance increase for the system assuming you install your OS+Programs on it.

Everything you'll possibly need to build the PC will come with those parts, the most you'll need is a screwdriver...actually no, you probably won't even need that with so many things being tool-less these days hahaha :P

    Ah right. No problem!

    > Drop the case down to a Cooler Master HAF912 or Corsair 300R. The HAF is a seriously awesome budget case.
    > Drop Corsair TX650M to an XFX 550w, Corsair CX500 or any Antec 550-600w.
    > Drop GTX670 down to a GTX660 Ti (or HD7870/GTX660 if you really must), I love Asus and Gigabyte because their coolers kick ass
    > Drop HDD down to 500-750mb if you don't have a ton of media files to store
    > You can see so far I've avoided dropping the SSD...the system performance is so addictive...but you can drop the SSD altogether if you must, that'll slice another 100 bucks off

Options options options, these builds are highly flexible. Just don't play with the CPU+Mobo combination too much :P

Sure, but it won't do your build justice. You could technically go down to a junkjard and take any old ATX-standard case and build in that. You might even have one around already. Heck, you could even build it in a shoebox. My point is though that while you can get a cheaper case I see no real point getting a $800 gaming computer and slap it into a $20 case.

It's your money though, and ultimately your choice. Going too cheap you might regret your choice a few months down the line and think for yourself "why didn't I give up that *insert random superfluous thing* and get a better case...?".

Even cheaper than HAF912? But that thing's like 60 bucks! I really wouldn't recommend dropping any lower.

As I said you don't *need* the SSD, it's purely a system performance-booster and won't really help in games other than greatly shortening loading times. That's why I listed out my points in an order, if you've done all the above (lowered case, PSU, GPU, etc) and are still wanting to push it down further, take off the SSD.

For a working PC you don't need anything more than a single HDD.

edit: this was the lowest I could get it while holding semi-decent specs

The next stage would be dropping the CPU down to an AMD FX series or Core i3.

I just saw your thing on the case after i posted that, and yea i'm fine with the HAF case, but what i'm mainly asking is, can i juse use the SSD? or would it be better to just get the other hard drive and not worry about the SSD

  17. #17
But also will this power supply work?
Antec EarthWatts EA-650 Green 650 Watt 80 PLUS BRONZE Power Supply on amazon

about the hard drives what i was trying to figure out is do i NEED the other hard drive if i get the SSD? or can i just use the SSD?

    ---------- Post added 2013-05-08 at 07:14 PM ----------

never mind, i think i might have just answered my question, i just looked at how much i am using on my current computer, and i'm usin about 280g of my current hard drive

    ---------- Post added 2013-05-08 at 07:21 PM ----------

Can i take one of my hard drives out of my laptop and put them in this computer? i have 3 in my laptop and the 2 that i havent even touched are 232GB each

Errr yes it'll work but you're paying $85 + $12 shipping (so $97) and it's not even modular. You get Corsair TX650M for $88, free shipping and it's semi-modular (means a shitload less cable mess in your case) which is why I had suggested that one in the first place :P
But if you're going to cut the graphics card down to a 660 or 7870 then you only need a 500-550w PSU, keep that in mind. PSU recommendation scales up and down with the build.

You realize the SSD is only 128gb...SSD's are super-fast but their downside is far less storage (you can get bigger ones but they cost exponentially more), which is why people usually only use them to install the operating system and programs and put all their data/media/etc on HDD's.
Win7 Home Premium 64bit + stuff like Adobe/MS Office will eat up at least 50gb on it's own, leaving you with another 50-60gb to install games (fast load times!)...depending on the sizes of your games, and they're getting pretty huge these days, that leaves very little room for stuff like movies or music and general "fluff" computers tend to accumulate in terms of downloads. You'll be out of space in no time.

Do you have hard drives lying around at home which you can use for data storage? If not, skip the SSD and just buy a Caviar Blue 1TB.

    ASUS Graphic Cards GTX660-DC2O-2GD5
    and
    Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB GDDR5 PCI-Express 3.0 DVI-I/DVI-D/HDMI/Displayport SLI Ready Graphics Card GV-N660OC-2GD

it would be cheeper on me to drop the SSD, but i dont want to, i've heard the SSD's are so much faster than the regular hard drives and i kinds dont wanna give it up if i gain alot, but then again i guess i can just buy a SSD some other time =/

Not sure why people are leaving out the OS, since that's an expensive and rather necessary part.

As for the SSD, it's very nice, but not crucial. At the $900 budget, it might be best left out for performance parts.
