If you were to write a book, what would it be about?

    Hey all,

Fun thread idea off of a discussion I had with some friends over beers the other night. If you were to write a book, in a sentence or two, what would it be about?

I'd always wanted to write a book about a guy who would fall asleep in the real world and wake up in another, alternate world. Only way to travel between is by sleeping in one, but eventually somehow he notices what happens in one world has an effect in the other. Was a cool idea I guess.

    What about you guys?

Demon and angel hunters(yes angels will be evil); with a nephilem that is both a redeemer and destroyer for human kind. Fights a demonlord that is trying to invade. Huge plot twist in the end where the nephilem learns that they(nephilem) are the only creatures without free will and essentially never did anything by him-/herself, and that choice would always between evil and evil.

Really want to elaberate but alas.

A political and social analysis of America from WWI to the present detailing the many mistakes that have been made that have weakened the nation.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.

would certainly be some kind of story i made up.

either sci-fi focusing on 'realistic' ideas for alien lifeforms (instead of humanoids with legs, arms, eyes, mouths, etc; think intelligent crystals, or incorporeal 4th-dimensional entities) as well as their interactions with humans and perspectives from each side.

or a more standard one told by a girl, focused on society, technology and to some degree religion, in sort of a post-apocalyptic steam-punk fantasy setting

doesn't mean there can't be another one. especially on a topic that probably has many different aspects and potential viewpoints to it.

    Sci-Fi Comedy.
Think of the style as a blend of Douglas Adam's, Terry Pratchett, Eric Idle, and Jasper Carrot.

The Setting would be about a Scouser who gets abducted by "grey aliens" from a university campus thinking that he is one of the most intelligent people in the country in an attempt to have him breed with the aliens to help regained their intelligence, Which is lower than ours due to a series of mishaps. Unfortunately for them their "Prized Specimen" never completed any sort of higher education and was only on the campus looking to score some weed, who then agrees to help them abduct various people from human history on the condition that once they have regained on the condition that when they have regained their IQ that they teach him the secrets to growing the perfect pot plant.

Not sure, but it would probably be incredibly cliched and blatantly steal from numerous other works of fiction.

I'd probably aim for the fantasy genre.

Does that apply to the characters I create such as Gundalf the Light and Randall Thor?

So... you'd totally rip off DMC, and change the ending a little bit?

Humanity in 100,000 years. Naturally it is impossible to predict what humans would be like that far into the future (assuming we don't kill ourselves off) so to create such a world I would do a couple things. First research more into defining human tendencies and then push the consequences of each tendency to the absolute extreme I can think of keeping in mind that they will effect each other. Then invent many different "life forms" to interact with humans, aliens that are both younger and older then my imagined human race.

Ultimately though human and life forms would be in some kind of conflict which would focus of the story. Think about it this way, the story is about us and the other life forms in the future and what they did during this conflict.

If I ever went through with it, the research/development pages would far exceed the number of pages in the actual book. The reason why I would so this is simple, to make this world feel more real; this would be the major goal of the book. A story about humans 100,000 years in the future that the reader would feel is possible, even likely to happen (which it probably isn't).

I'm in the process of world-building for a fantasy story at the moment. Main character is a female thief who gets into numerous adventures.

I would probably write a book on sports-betting, because the existing bibliography is both poor and limited.

I'd write a fantasy book set in colonial America. The main character would be an African American slave that's actually a god and doesn't know/remember it and after escaping from his captors he'd slowly begin to tap into his godly powers and ultimately he'd teach the people of Earth a very important lesson about human suffering and empathy.
