    Is profession conversion profitable?

    Hellow everybody,
Surely you are aware that different professions yield various profit margins depending on the time, like for Example Inscription makes you a lot of golds during the first Weeks* but then declines steadily whilst others like Engineering and Blacksmithing get surges throughout the Expansion with new Recipes.

*I remember Darkmoon Cards had a price of over 100k at launch but now I'm happy if I get to sell a Fan for 900g which takes 5 daily cooldowns and a Spirit of Harmony.

So my Question is: Do you earn more or less gold if you learn another profession(s) as an Expansion advances and then learn something like Inscription back again prior to the Launch of the new Expansion.
Is the difference in Gold more than the Time and Gold investment of maxing out 2 Professions? I don't know but maybe you do, hence the question.

Sidequestion: How is it with the Alchemy specialisations. I was wondering if it's worth to craft your 2 year Supply of, say, Flasks with the Flask specialization, then convert to Potion Master and craft the thousands of Potions for personal Use and for AH and then switch to Transmute Master for 720daily CDs which I believe amount to 133 Extra daily transmutes. My problem here is that the materials cost at the beginning of an expansion is higher than later on so there may be a gold loss if you buy the Herbs for thousands of Potions and hundreds of Flasks at the beginning of an expansion and in general it is hard to get enough quantity at once.

Well if you are going to spend that time and gold, why not get a profession slave instead of switching professions? Way simpler and cheaper to level a char and give him profession X you are looking for.

If you're just absolutely not going to level a char, then profession swapping is probably not worth it.

I mean of the available options that make more gold then Inscription reliably, there's basically only JC and Enchanting. JC is right out, since you'd need to do weeks of research to get all the recipes and enchanting has been pretty meh overall this expansion. I've made some gold with the high end enchants, but mostly what you are selling these days is the materials, cause those are more expensive then the scrolls usually (on my server).

JC can do it, with a large part of this tier + rest of Mists, but it's going to be a large deficit to overcome, since you won't be making much gold at first untill you can get some recipes going. I personally would throw away everything I've learned with Inscription to learn JC, and learn all those recipes, to then unlearn that as well again and re-learn Inscription.

If anything I'd just stay pat, and make better use of my Scrolls of Wisdom. I still make 35k+ a month with creating trinkets, on 2 toons, so 15-20k with 1 Scribe should be well possible. That surely beats 900g for a stupid fan.

Spending time using your professions rather than hopping from one profession to another is going to make you more money. Most serious goldmakers will have every profession covered.

The only one you might have multiples of are inscription for the beginning expansion rush. You can make so much money it will last the entire expansion.

Other than that I find changing professions a waste of effort and something to be avoided. The only things I tend to get rid of are gathering professions as I use those as part of the leveling process and they can be changed relatively easily. You make money by using a profession rather than hopping from one to another to take advantage of cooldowns.

If you can stand to level some profession dummies to 85 so that they can reach 600 then do that. Pretty fast these days and having every profession around is nice. In the long run switching profession would mean time lost which is gold lost.

I think it highly depends on which ones you are talking about. Something like BS can be dropped early on in the expansion till you earn rep and stack up on recipes then maybe pick it up a month down the road. However, you probably lose out on the initial mark up prices for crafted gear.

I would say its profitable if you have Inscription on 2 toons for the first month or may be 2 moths of an expansion. So then you are working out on the reps, progressing through raids, collecting recipes, etc. So then you can drop Inscription and pick up Blacksmithing. Pretty sure all those Darkmoon Cards you make would outweigh anything you could possibly make from BS.

Something like JC wouldn't work, cause it would only take you longer to learn the new cuts.
