didnt have a raiding guild in vanilla so I got my first epic from the long ass quest chain that starts in ubrs by talking to this dragonwhelp I think its name was Aimee? that mats required to build that item were ridiculous.

Found a Brainhacker while farming chimaeras and shardtooth bears for Wintersaber Trainer rep. I didn't know anything about raiding at the time, so my priority for rep grinds was a little backwards. At the time there was only one other person I knew of with the purple tiger mount on my server, so I was determined to be the 2nd.

I was so excited to find a purple, even though my druid couldn't use it. I thought I would make a ton of gold. The damned thing wouldn't even sell.

Crafted Hide of the Wild in Vanilla as my first epic.

That larval acid was such a pain to get as a holy priest back then. That one piece of epic
was pretty much my gateway to raiding.

Stockade Spaulders (or Pauldrons) which I sold for 350g, my first epic I used was Hide of the Wild, I dinged 60 farming the larval acid to get this made.
