    5.3 pve vs. pvp equipment-question

Hello I didn't play a ptr so any1 can explain me if pve gear is really better than pvp and pve gems >pvp gems ? I'm playing as a healer and I don't play pve content. Many ppl complain about changes as always but I need one simple answer. Is it still better to put pvp gems and use pvp gear or if I want to have best pvp eq I need to focus on pve gear (lmao) ?
    I usually play bg.

The really basic answer, for your situation is: Yes, PvP gear will be better than PvE gear, and PvP gems will be better than PvE gems.

The arguments of PvE gear being better than PvP is normally arguing world pvp (where item level isn't capped), set bonuses or trinket procs. But for you just doing BGs, PvP gear is better.

Snuggli, please don't give wrong informations, it makes me sad. (Your informations aside from the gems aren't inherently wrong, but not specific enough).

Fairly sure that calculations so far put 496 PvP > 491 PvP > 496 PvE > 476 PvP. So if he has gear even in LFR basis it should already be comparable at the very least or better than the honor gear.

As for gems, with the two nerfs to PvP power it has effectively become useless to gem, so main stats such as int are the far better decision here, especially since they scale with the PvP power already on the gear.

  4. #4
    For the gems:
On live you can gem 320 power which is 1,2% more damage, 5.3 only allows you to gem 160 power which is 0.4% more damage (they not only reduce the amount of stats on gems in half but also increase the amount of stats needed to get 1% from 265 to 400). Actually i can't tell if your primary stat (or any regular secondary stat) is better for your class/specc, this might depend on your comp/role/etc. I for myself will probably end up still gemming res, while that's only ~ 2% additional damage reduction after the patch it's still *something* and it's not my damage output per se that concerns me.

    Deleth,
5 ilvl will make up for all the pvp power you get on S12 pvp gear? I doubt that.... unless it's not 496 pve gear but ToT raiding gear scaled down to 496 with up to two additional sockets. Mind sharing those calculations?

  5. #5
some pve items with more sockets than the pvp items in same slots must surely be better. let's say if a spriest will still want to stack max resi through gems, here's a lot of options to do so:

    http://www.wowhead.com/item=95742 vs http://www.wowhead.com/item=91139 (+320 resi)
    http://www.wowhead.com/item=95785 vs http://www.wowhead.com/item=91140 (+320 resi)
    http://www.wowhead.com/item=95816 vs http://www.wowhead.com/item=94452 (+640 resi)
    http://www.wowhead.com/item=95708 vs http://www.wowhead.com/item=94449 (+320 resi)
    http://www.wowhead.com/item=95782 vs http://www.wowhead.com/item=94425 (+320 resi)
    http://www.wowhead.com/item=95760 vs http://www.wowhead.com/item=91309 (+320 resi)
    http://www.wowhead.com/item=94279 vs http://www.wowhead.com/item=94333 (+320 resi)

that's a total of 2560 resilience gained once resilience will be gone from pvp gear.

And a lot of PvP power lost. And the other stats will be scaled down, so yes, you can get resi, but it will cost you a lot of stats.

you will only lose the pvp power if they are scaled to same item level. I'm not saying you'll want to grab all that gear as a spriest but some of the pieces should be tempting, seeing how poor the scaling of pvp power is in next patch.

I'm playing holy pala and they will lose my sub if I ll be worse than someone doing pve content. They are going to punish me because I play pvp ? This is ridiculous.

It's more like 20 ilevels compared to the 476 honor gear where it's pretty much a no brainer.

dont listen to the mods in here they are so biased its not even funny.the bottom line is pve gear/players are getting a boost in pvp because blizz is trying to fill in #'s of subs lost with pvers, lmfao.

pve gear is getting stronger while pvp gear is not,its not hard to put 2 and 2 together.

blizz already stated that pvp gear will still be better than pve gear when it comes down to arenas, rbgs and bgs. No one in their right mind is going to gem their pve gear with pvp gems, and yes pvp power and resil will still be better for pvp over regular stat gems i.e agi, str. Helps to read sometimes instead of giving out wrong info.

The 20 iLevels is big no doubt, but the problem is you seem to think everyone is going to be running around in the highest level PvE gear (over 496 is all that matters) and people are going to be stuck on the 476 PvP gear. Someone who hits 90 today can be in full 476 PvP gear in a few days depending on how much honor they had going in and how lucky they get in BGs. Within that first week they should also be losing their way to their Conquest cap in RBG "lose groups" (of which there are plenty) and via the IoT daily quests.

So while an individual piece of PvE 496+ gear will be better than an individual piece of PvP 476 gear, the 476 gear is way easier to get and during that time they are also building up conquest to get PvP 496.

In BGs, RBGs and Arena you won't be, you will be better assuming you have any sort of Conquest gear at all. If you are PvPing now, you most definitely will at least some Conquest gear.

I'm not saying 5.3 is perfect, or even good for that matter, in fact it might crash and burn and be the worst thing ever. But don't listen to the two fear mongers about it either. Where you PvP the most (which is instanced), you will be better off in PvP gear than anyone will be in PvE gear as long as you have at least some Conquest gear. If you are mostly decked out in Conquest it won't even be close.

It's as simple as this; PvP power won't scale down from any source. All other stats will, even from gems.

Actually no, other then Wpvp the pve gear will not be better. The pve geared players will just have an easier time to get into pvp. If they do and they like it the hope is that it will create more competion for us in the future. Or at least make it so we don't 2 shot undergeared players. I for one really don't care to much about beating underskilled or undergeared players. In world pvp I don't think the pve gear will make much of a difference as I am prob 2x as skilled as they are. Most of the subs where also lost from the eastern side it seems as well.

I will add that I don't like where pvp is headed right now, not because of the gear changes, that should of been done long ago. Hell we can all enter with equal gear for what I care. What I don't like is people that are hired to do a job, create an expack, make a lot of promises and fail to deliver them. We have more unbalanced now then we have ever seen. Anytime any class becomes remotely fun, blizzard sucks that right out of the class and nerfs it untill its tasteless and just simply not fun to play, unless of course you are a mage. I pretty much stopped playing this game so much mainly just pvping with a mage atm as I know I will never have to worry about it being nerfed in any major way, without getting buffed back 2x in the next patch.

Ill also put here is most of the high end pvp'ers like myself don't want OP, we just want fun and balance. This shouldn't be this big of a deal to do. I don't know why blizzard has to have an ongoing patch war over buffing and nerfing classes. Some shit we have seen in this game is just plain stupid. Ring of peace? Conversion?. Anyway.. yea..

Some healers might still gem resil after this. Everyone else will be using pve gems

496 pve gear >> 476 pvp gear. Pvp power gems getting nerfed by 60-70%, resil gems nerfed by 50%. Mods spreading misinformation, what's new?

It's PvE mods being active in the PvP forums. PvE players can roll in ridicule, insult and troll PvP players but so much as talking back to them nets you an infraction while they get off free.

That's your opinion. I've infracted just as many anti-PvP posts as I have anti-PvE on this forum. The PvP subforum is actually one of the most relaxed (infraction wise) sections of MMO-C.

Regarding your earlier post about me spreading mis-information, which part of it was false? He needed a very basic and simple answer whether PvE or PvP gear is better in PvP, the short answer is that PvP is better. There may be odd situations where having a PvE ring nets you 30 more resilience at the cost of power, but other than that, the overall consensus is that PvP gear will be best in instanced PvP.

If you are comparing 496 PvP gear you're right, but for everything else 496+ PvE gear will be better. It's vastly superior to honor gear for example with only ilevel 476. So while not inherently wrong you were unspecific on purpose to give out wrong informations.

Also you told him PvP gems would be better, this is also wrong. With both nerfs to gem you need about three to come even close to what you get before from a single one. For most classes pure main stats are more desirable then PvP power.
