In a massive amounts of data (see DB) you want to sort by year, month, date, as to easily see a timeline.

"20 May 13" = the 20th of May, 2013.

Well my computer is MM/DD/YYYY - Pretty sure it's like that on most US computers :P

Some american error, Europeans (at least British do) write 10/1/13 for 10th Jan 2013.

This search has just taken it as the american format, which would be 1st Oct 2013.

I'm gonna take a guess that a result bringing up both an eu and us forum message somehow messes it up.

european would be day/month/year (increasing duration), american would be month/day/year (how you would read it in conversation) but i dont think ive ever seen year/month/day

At work we timestamp everything in a year-month-day format because it makes it super simple to sort by year whenever we need to go through old logs.

So 2013-05-20, 2012-01-15, etc.

Pretty much this. America does their dates the wrong way around, so to them it's the tenth month of the first day, rather than the tenth day of the first month.
