We just killed Lei shen last night and moved onto this. We had 10 or so attempts before we realised this fight is retarded for dk tanks and so we had our undergeared warrior tank it for a few times, which wasn't actually that bad.
But my question is, if I extend the lockout, will we still have the 17 or so attempts left, or will it go back to 30? I'm guessing it stays at 17 but wanted someone to confirm.
Apparently Blizzard thinks Shuffle is the same as Blood Shield. Interesting logic there.
What are Guardian Druids like for this? I'm a Holy Paladin with a 525ilvl Prot offspec but I'd rather not have to tank this one as our off-spec healer is a little undergeared for it. So basically we have the option of Guardian or Prot Warrior. Our DK was having real trouble with Fatal Strike so he'll be giving this boss a miss!
The Fatal Strike cannot be blocked or dodged, but requires the Active Mitigation be up to survive it. As a result the mitigation itself is 'useless' for the damage component of the Fatal Strike.
Check of the expression editor confirms this. http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/r...atal+Strike%22
The negative of this is that those classes will often require CD's to survive the hit or depending on Stalker control, could potentially RNG a tank with a bad crackle etc.
Just to verify this I checked a Prot warrior's parse as well and there's a noticeable difference:
Warrior: http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/r...atal+Strike%22 Generally around 750k, as high as 890k
Paladin: http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/r...atal+Strike%22 Meanwhile this is 550k before shields
Now, that's the negative to using a Guardian or Warrior, the positive is that their active mitigation has a much longer duration than paladins and as such won't be subject to the type of delays that paladins experience, or the flat out retardation that DK's need to endure. Should you be able to topple the higher FS damage you will find your tank shouldn't have any issue hitting the mark on every strike.
I can't speak for which of the two would be 'better', from a distance I'd say the Warrior brings better survivability to the FS due to the focus on stamina (thus how the warrior I referenced survived a near 900k unmitigated attack), while the druid will bring significantly more DPS. That second point shouldn't make or break your encounter for you however.
Does FS somehow comprehend the health of the tank?
Over warrior has nothing like the health of warrior you linked and our warrior seems to get hit slightly less hard.
Our warrior also seemed to absorb close to 560k for one FS. I'm not to sharp on warrior tanks but maybe this was classed as a 'critical block'?
I'm not sure what you mean by that, the average hit he's talking seems in line with the previous parse, no shortage of 780k hits.
Firstly, the syntax for a block looks like this:
[19:19:39.034] Horridon hits Choice 14227 (A: 84468, B: 42298)
It'd say it's unlikely that the mastery would be calculated with no hint as to it's presence.
Secondly, Shield Barrier is used on the FS you reference.
[21:55:12.934] Krockett gains Shield Barrier from Krockett (Remaining: 461150)
[21:55:12.934] Krockett casts Shield Barrier
[21:55:15.506] Ra-den casts Fatal Strike on Krockett
[21:55:15.758] Krockett's Shield Barrier fades from Krockett (Remaining: 0)
[21:55:15.782] Ra-den Fatal Strike Krockett 39142 (A: 558990)
With 100k shield unaccounted for that would fall in line with with a disc pw:s or a spirit shell, as with most of the strikes in the log.
Aha! I didn't check for Shield Barrier as FS doesn't refer to it as an active mitigation that will save the tank (the con's of being awake for too long). I guess he had Shield Block up as well as a Barrier to absorb a good chunk of the hit. Thanks again for the insight!
Just killed Lei shen tonight. Put 10 attempts in on Ra-den. If we don't kill it for some reason this week, if we raid extend the lockout do we get a fresh 30 attempts next week? Reclearing is not an option as we've lost a main tank and vacation time.
Hopefully someone has a definitive answer.
Fatal strike definitely has a variable damage range depending on what tankclass is tanking. If I recall correctly there was a thread in the warrior forums that concluded that it was ~75% of your max hp per strike, which kind of makes sense.
Only times where a FS is lethal is if
a) youre not high health enough (healers being slow)
b) you fail with your active mitigation (poor poor DKs )
Eitherway they intended it to be 75% after weakend blows (either ignore or it reduces by 10% thus is initially 82.5%). Don't think armor affects it at all.
Only garanteed way to reduce the amount of damage you take is an absorb, gotta love not having a disc priest for the whole tier....
This threadtitle really annoys me every time it pops up... such as terrible use of the saying.
*We lost a couple important players due to random things (our MT's crazy Asian parents attacked him in the middle of the night and smashed his computer). We killed H Lei Shen yesterday, but if we don't kill Ra-den, reclearing 12/13H is unlikely since interest is already dropping for many of our members.
We put 10 attempts at Ra-den yesterday, leaving us with 20 left.
1) If we use up all of our attempts this week and he doesn't die, can we raid extend and the attempt count be at 30 or will it stay at 0?
2) Can we bring an alt in for one pull, pull the boss and wipe, saving the alt to an ID with 19 attempts left. If we don't kill it, then next week, can we use the alt's ID to continue a lockout at 19 attempts?
Also, any tips for a DK tanking this? It's our only option at this point.
