Best current video card for $250-300 ?

Anyone do some research into this lately? What would be the go-to cards to get in June 2013? Looking to buy one, yes there are sites with reviews but I was hoping some of you may have some advice. I would pay up to $400.00 if there was quite the performance jump.

No new GPU's expected in Q3. Look into the GTX 770.

The 770 would be ideal at 400 $.
A 7870xt will also handle any game on the market right now, which is sitting at 250 $.

    7870 is $250

    http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Mini-Displayport-PCI-Express-Graphic-GV-R787OC-2GD/dp/B007PJVB3Y/

    and the 7950 is $305.

Whatever you feel you want to spend on a videocard, both are excellent cards for the money.

    Grab a 7870 XT

I'd consider going GTX 650ti boost SLI too as long as the games you're playing support SLI and your power supply can handle it.
Fluorescent - Fluo - currently retired, playing other stuff

    i5-4670k @ 4.5 / Thermalright Silver Arrow Extreme / Gigabyte Z87X-D3H / 8GB DDR3-1600 RAM / Gigabyte GTX 760

    Nope.

Stay with a single card solution. 7870 XT will give you damn good bang for your buck at that budget.

Would love to know why, benchmarks are showing it to be about a 7950/670.

Mainly because of the drawbacks of SLI. Plus they are lower end cards.

I also think, when turning up the AA performance will drop more than with a 7870 XT. These cards lack the membus for that.

650 Ti Boost cards have a 192-bit memory bus... that alone would make me avoid them unless I had no other choice.

AMD give another choice, thus I would not go for it.

If you're willing to go to $400 a 7970 GHz Edition or GTX 770 will serve you well for the foreseeable future.

SLI generates more heat, noise, electricity bill and comes with some incompatibility issues as well as microstuttering, all of which you can avoid using single GPU card.

Also low end cards will have nearly zero resale value in few years, but you can get decent amount of money back spent on 7970.

Initial reviews point into (overclocked) GTX770 beating 7970 GHz edition (remember this is also factory overclocked) clearly on single screen in anything and everything. Yes, even with lower RAM and lower memory bandwidth. Only place where AMD cards has an advantage is three monitor surround.

The game benchmarks I've seen show them within a handful of fps of each other every time. I'll see if I can find them.

The 7970 GHz can also be overclocked, just as much as the 770. As in you can get a higher clocked 7970 GHz compared to the reference 7970 GHz edition.

And at 1080p the 770 is the better choice. Going 1440p+ it seems to matter less. (But me personally, I dont like the card. As it is just a rebranded 680. But thats a different discussion :P)

He means they're both "factory overclocked" from AMD/Nvidia.

660 Ti available for $241 after $20 MIR.

Technically though, they did give the 770 a Titan/780 PCB. So instead of just a rebranded 680, it's a 680 on a much better PCB.
