Please give advice on my £1,000 gaming build

    Hi,

    Budget: £1,000
    Resolution: 1920x1200
Games / Settings Desired: WoW ultra
Any other intensive software or special things you do (Frequent video encoding, 3D modeling, etc): Video encoding, occasional amateur 3D modeling, Linux kernel development, dual-monitor.
    Country: England
Parts that can be reused: HDD, peripherals
Do you need an OS? No
Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)? No

For now I don't think that I need liquid cooling as I won't be overclocking for a while.

    Current version:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (£189.38 @ Aria PC)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 54.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (£21.75 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G43 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£94.99 @ Aria PC)
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£100.00 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Disk (£177.59 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT 2GB Video Card (£217.91 @ Amazon UK)
Case: Thermaltake Commander MS/I Snow Edition (White/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (£43.98 @ Novatech)
Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 620W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply (£69.99 @ Amazon UK)
    Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer (£4.99 @ Amazon UK)
    Total: £920.58
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Let me know how you would improve it or anything I should be aware of, thanks!

You could save a lot on the cooler and buy for example 16GB memory, a 80 Euro cooler is way too much for someone that will just play WoW and not overclock etc. Go for a 20pound one or stick with the default even.

Hi Outofmana, I'm okay with overclocking eventually, but you are right. I'll stick with the default fan, get 16GB of RAM and then upgrade to water cooling and overclock when I feel the need. I've edited the original list and changed from 2x4GB of 1600MHz RAM to 2x8GB of 2133MHz.

This is the build I'd propose which includes everything you need right now:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (£179.99 @ Aria PC)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (£90.96 @ Dabs)
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G43 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£94.99 @ Aria PC)
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£100.00 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Disk (£177.59 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT 2GB Video Card (£217.91 @ Amazon UK)
Case: Thermaltake Commander MS/I Snow Edition (White/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (£43.98 @ Novatech)
Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 620W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply (£69.99 @ Amazon UK)
    Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer (£4.99 @ Amazon UK)
    Total: £980.40
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

The RAM should be better suited to fitting the whole thing as a precaution.

Cool case, looks like a stormtrooper . I see your power supply is modular, nice.

What's the reason for spending £10 more on the H100i over the H80i?
Is there a reason not to save ~£60 and go with this 7870? http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-...ard-fx787acdfc

    Thanks!

1600mhz is fine for gaming. You simply won't notice a difference between 1600 and 2133.

I edited the question out as I'd just read the same, but thank you for confirming it .

The 7870 XT isn't really a 7870. It has the same Tahiti gpu as the 7900 series cards, they should have just called it a 7930 to save people the confusion.

8000 series is still months away and there's pretty much no confirmed info on them. If WoW is all you're interested in as far as gaming goes, the 7870 XT will be fine. Anything more would be overkill unless we're talking multiple monitors.

Fantastic build, with one problem - the OP is in the UK.

Would 2x 7870 XTs be a lot better than a 770? That way I could just get 1 for now and upgrade if I need it in the future for not much more than buying 1 770.

They ship all around europe atleast
The shipping cost is 10-20 euro
crossfire doesn't work that well, I would recommend getting a single powerful card over two powerhungry cards that may or may not work correctly.
