    Which laptop?

Heya, so the time has come atlast to get a replacement laptop.

My current one is 4 years old and struggles to play wow at 20 fps (normally 10-20), i'm looking at 2 laptops which are fairly cheap - and would appreciate help from you guys on picking one!

The games i'd be running are WOW, D3 (If it can handle it) and maybe some classic games. Nothing too taxing!

    Toshiba L870 17" Black Notebook
    • 17.3in TruBrite HD+ LED Backlit Display
    • 6GB RAM
    • 640GB HDD
    • Intel Core i5-2450M Processor
    • Intel HD Graphics 3000

    And the other -

    Toshiba P845T 14" Touchscreen Notebook
    • 14in TruBrite HD touchscreen with LED backlight
    • 4GB RAM
    • 500GB HDD
    • Intel Core i3-3227U processor (1.9GHz)
    • Intel HD Graphics 4000

I'm thinking the first laptop would be good, for both gaming when not at home and college/ work.

Taxing games or not, neither of those have a GPU. So WoW would run like crap.

Neither would really be an improvement for what you have as for playing WoW, in all honesty.

    They both suck big time.

    Budget/location?

As your location says Cambridge. I'm going to assume that's UK and not some US city that stole the name

    take a look at www.pcspecialist.co.uk.

The 2 laptops you mentioned are around £500 in the UK.

Have a look around the pcspecialist site, there's a few laptops in the region of £500 with a GTX 660M. That's a reasonable card for a gaming laptop. The GTX 650M based one are definitely in your price range if the limit is £500 though obviously don't have quite so much power.
The shops one of the better places in the UK, you buy a laptop directly from them so the buck stops with them if there's warranty issues. The basic warranty includes 1st years parts + 3 years labour.

The price offered on each is a complete, stripped down bare minimum part in each slot. Ensure you go to at least an I3 for the processor with at least 2x2GB of memory. Otherwise you can probably leave most other options at defaults. A better hard drive might be a plan if you have some room in the budget.

Price wise, they're pretty decent, considering you can get a laptop there with a 680M for under £1k (compromising heavily on other parts but still...) they're definitely good value.

Closing a thread simply because you got the help you wanted is not necessary. Did you reach a conclusion?

    I did! And sorry

    I opted for a http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops...z-series/z500/ (With the voucher, it's down to 700 excluding p&p)

Truthfully it's around 100 more than i can afford, but it seems able to do everything my desktop can and more -

    Processor:3rd generation Intel Core i7-3632QM Processor( 2.20GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
    Operating system:Windows 8 64
    System Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce GT645M 2GB
    Total memory:8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz
Display type:15.6" HD Glossy with integrated camera 1366x768
    Pointing device:Industry Standard Multi-touch 2 button touchpad
    Hard drive device:1TB 5400 rpm

Unless you can find something cheaper, in which case im all over it!

Don't expect good gaming performance with a GT645M..

a 5400RPM HDD will always be quite slow

Better than the alternatives. And 5400 RPMs aren't that slow. If one is used to laptops, it's likely going to be faster than the previous one.

The resolution is only 1366x768. So it should handle wow well enough on medium.
I myself can play wow with the intel HD 4000 at that resolution on low well enough. (Havent tried LFR, but 30 fps in SW is ok for me)
