If the boss pulled me on it I would say look the guy was walking past and I just farted so I put my head down in shame...
    Boom job done

    Tell your boss.

If I was your boss, I'd want you to come to me and let me know that it was a one-off incident and you won't let it happen again. Any decent boss will thank you for being honest and tell you to make sure it doesn't happen again.
It's better to pre-empt any damage that might come your way, so on the off-chance that you were spotted napping, it's best that they hear it from you and not someone else.
If you're open and honest then that should put it to rest and not raise suspicions about it maybe being a common thing.

Nope, no cameras. It's actually an old system. It looks like a bunch of webcams taped together into one video feed. Yeah, I find myself not being able to do much during the day. I usually get on work at 11pm and off at 7AM. It was worse when we had a 7/3/7/4 rotation.
You make me smile with my heart.

    Slacker. lol
The nerve is called the "nerve of awareness". You cant dissect it. Its a current that runs up the center of your spine. I dont know if any of you have sat down, crossed your legs, smoked DMT, and watch what happens... but what happens to me is this big thing goes RRRRRRRRRAAAAAWWW! up my spine and flashes in my brain... well apparently thats whats going to happen if I do this stuff...

So why even ask if you should worry, lol?

  6. #26
Indeed, if nothing serious happened dont mention it

but tbh just read this out loud to my flat mate who knows people who do these jobs and he said its not new to people who hire you happens all the time

    It's quite easy really.
If you tell your boss, he has to react, otherwise he is sending you and your co-workers a signal that it's okay to sleep while at work.

So ... don't mention anything and if he brings up the subject, then explain what happened.
It's hard for me to comprehend the lengths some people will go to create problems in their heads... I mean, has your boss spoken to you about it? No. A guy who happened to be walking by? Dude, I never look at security guards/ secretaries and such, too boring to look at (no offense).

You're a security guard and you count sheep at work? What's the worst that could happen...

I am gonna take a stab in the dark and guess you are still pretty young or have been generally lucky to avoid the truth of the modern working world because if you are working as a "security guard" and fall asleep on the job most bosses would reprimand you for the first offense and often terminate you for the 2nd.

I've worked overnight security within Casino's, milling plants, warehouses and I've never had a boss that took sleeping on the job lightly.
In fact I've worked the Graveyard shift for both security/retail over the last 12 year's and have seen multiple people terminated for falling asleep on the job.

Besides staying awake is as easy as easy as forcing yourself to stay occupied with activities.

Nope, I'm 28. It's a small building and I have a partner. Some days you gotta do stuff that takes away from your sleep time. So we help eachother out and cover so one can take a nap if need be. Its not nightly And I have my radio right next to my head incase I'm needed. I'm the best one on my crew and my boss knows and understands that at times we need to take an hour to rest our eyes.

I really won't trip then bro. I totally understand the people that are saying to be honest with your boss and I respect that. But I just figure no camera no proof. And from my experience (working in a residential building) the people that come in and go out overnight don't like to be bothered or noticed anyways. I'd bet the guy that left either didn't care, didn't notice, or was probably relieved he didn't have to talk to you. My vote is let it go. If your boss brings it up then be real, it happens. But I personally wouldn't go to him and wouldn't worry about it.

+1. I work for a large company and around 30 people report to me. I would be impressed if someone proactively came to me, fessed up, and explained how he'd avoid it in the future. This is the best approach to take. It shows maturity.

Dude.. if it only happened once you shouldn't have anything to worry about... Short story, first time I ever got drunk I showed up a mess at work... I was scared too, but no one ever said a thing and after 4 years I am still on the same job . Just don't make your sleeping at work a bad habit.

I really hate this idea that sleeping at work is a cardinal sin. Especially if you work third shift. Overnight work is not easy, nor incredibly healthy. Your body doesn't want to do it, so if you need a 15 minute nap, take a damn nap.

Yeah yeah you are paid to work, blah blah blah. The thing is productivity and alertness can go up substantially after a quick power nap.
Get a grip man! It's CHEESE!

Thank you. I own an organization that does work where this sort of thing happens, too. It's not like no one expects it to happen...I've nodded off myself (which cost me about $500), as recently as a month ago.

It's not that it happens that's important. It's how you handle it. OP: one thing experience will show you eventually, if it hasn't already, is that there's always something out there that will come and bite you in the ass when you least expect it. So just handle it up front and don't worry about it from there.

Don't tell your boss. If it comes up, say "Yeah, I felt really bad about that. That's why I starting bringing apples/headphones/books/whatever to make sure it doesn't happen again."

Maybe he checked the cameras when he woke up because he was afraid someone had seen him sleep?:P

Don't worry you'll be fine. If the boss finds out just explain you were sick or something and it was a honest mistake.

Technically speaking the apple has been proven more effective at waking a person up than a cup of coffee. An apple contains approximately 20 carbohydrates, which are used for fuel by the body.Apples also provide staying power! The high fiber content found in an apple cause the natural sugar to be absorbed more slowly into the system, avoiding the let down feeling that so common after the initial energy buzz of coffee has worn off.
