If a war broke out and another country (pick whatever one you want) was being attacked, would you volunteer to fight in defense of the country? For the sake of this discussion, we'll assume that your government will not bar you from volunteering and that your country's government refuses to get involved in the war.
Notable examples of people volunteering in foreign militaries include:
-American volunteers helping Canadian republicans in the Canada Rebellions of 1838.
-Foreign volunteers helping the Boers in the Second Boer War.
-American volunteers in both World Wars.
-Foreign volunteers helping Finland in the Winter War.
-Foreign volunteers helping both sides in the Spanish Civil War.
-Foreigners volunteers helping Israel in the Arabi-Israeli War.
-Foreign volunteers helping Rhodesia in the Rhodesian Bush War.

I would only volunteer if one of my closest people was stupid enough to put themselves in the line of fire, to protect them.

I wouldn't volunteer for any war. I got higher responsibilities now - kids.
Before kids, I might have, but I was also younger.

Poll needs a maybe option. I might help defend a country that has a lot of my family in it, and who wasn't the aggressor.

I'm in USA, I'd fight for Canada, Mexico, or UK in a heartbeat if they were being invaded.

I would fight for any country if I believed in the ideals they where fighting for.
As someone with very mixed blood I don't find myself very loyal to my birth country, but I do like the ideals it tries to uphold (the UK).
For example if America was under threat I would happily give my life to defend that country, whilst it is far from perfect I believe in the ideals the country was founded on.

I wouldn't volunteer for any military period. Even if they'd draft me they'll have to find me first.
That being said, ideologically, I'm not married to my stupid country. I have no problem supporting another and abandoning my own if it benefits me. Someone from comes to me and puts down enough cash, I'd go and take photos of ALL the military installations.
