You do occasionally see male frontal nudity. I think a small reason for that is that you can show full frontal female nudity without actually showing much. You can see plenty of penis in Spartacus on Showtime, and even in movies like The Hangover 2. In Spartacus, you even get to see a dudes genitals after the shaft is chopped off. In contrast, when they show full female frontal views, you never actually see the giblets, just the bush.
The male body is often considered to be ugly, yes. I don't agree with it, personally, but we live in a society where, overall, 'fine' features are appreciated, and the male angular roughness is (generally) not. It may be a form that is often admired for its practicality or show of strength, but hardly ever for its beauty.
This line of reasoning is going so far, even, that stick-figure males are often considered to be more beautiful than their more broad-shouldered, deep-chested counterparts.
So yeah; the public opinion is pretty much: Women can be beautiful/pretty, and men much less so. Handsome, perhaps, but when is the last time you heard a male described as 'pretty?'
For those thinking there is not enough penis on tv shows there is always Oz.
If you've watched one episode of Spartacus, you've seen enough dick on TV for your lifetime.
EDIT: Post above is a wizard^
Yeah why arent they waxing in ancient Rome! Maybe shave in a nice S.
I think the lack of male nudity is more perceived then reality. Of the shows on Networks that actually have nudity, HBO, Starz..., I think you still see male nudity a lot more then you'd think.
But then maybe America just doesnt have the love for cock that the EU does.
When you see someone in a thread making the same canned responses over and over, click their name, click view forum posts, and see if they are a troll. Then don't feed them."Gamer" is not a bad word. I identify as a gamer. When calling out those who persecute and harass, the word you're looking for is "asshole." @_DonAdams
Men don't like to be described as "pretty" last time I checked. It insults them, and calls into question their "masculinity." Handsome is basically the same thing as pretty, it's just a more masculine term.
Okay...please forgive my language. Women are pretty. Their bodies are aesthetically pleasing. But I don't want to have sex with those bodies. Because they're women, and I'm straight.
Men are hot, and I think their bodies are very attractive.
I think it depends on the channel..ie the execs or whatever.
HBO may not show full frontal nudity of men, but if you've ever watched Spartacus on STARZ network, you've seen quite a bit.

Indeed.
Additionally, think of the target audience for such programming. I'm fairly certain that the target audience for shows like GoT, Spartacus, etc isn't females. One consideration to think about as well is that these specialty channels got their start offering programming that was basically softcore porn at late night, movies during the day and boxing. This was during the time period when the internet wasn't really a big factor and it, in all honesty, was a selling point for the channels.
I know this is true for a lot of males... But I think that just makes the whole 'problem' (as I perceive it, at least) larger. 'Masculinity' shouldn't just be 'proud to have no value other than the exertion of control.' Or rather: Maybe terms like 'masculinity' and 'femininity' are simply no longer needed, and should simply vanish.
And in her day, the Rubens Vrouw was aesthetically pleasing and pretty. I doubt it's an actual personal opinion... I think it's more to do with cultural portrayal of bodies than anything else.Okay...please forgive my language. Women are pretty. Their bodies are aesthetically pleasing.
