    [Megathread] Dragon Age 3

I'm amazed there isn't a DA3 thread where we can hype about the game yet. I myself got pretty excited about it after looking over some of the PAX info, and now I'm going to play through the first two games again.

Here's some info for people who are interested. It's pretty bare-bones for now, but I'm glad they acknowledged some of their past mistakes and will try to improve the third game as a result.

    GameTrailers info: http://www.gametrailers.com/side-mis...medium=twitter

And some footage from the DA panel (warning:sound is kinda bad):

I'm cautious about getting hyped for 3 after the travesty that was 2. I absolutely loved the 1st ploughing hundreds of hours into completing it and even paid the ridiculous price for the expansion and add-ons.Then 2 came along and the only good part was the DLC with Felicia day in it...Please for the love of all that is dragon age EA please make the 3 a improved version of the 1st.

Bioware isn't exactly going into a direction I really like with their last games, so I'll wait and see before being overly excited.
Just because it sounds good doesn't automatically mean Bioware isn't going to fuck it up in some way. Like how I really liked most of ME3, except for the horrible ending and the disastrous Journal. Seriously, (side)quest progression and tracking was barely ever worse.
I mean... getting a side quest and being able to complete it 2! priority missions later? Really?
And best thing is not knowing where you'll get that shit... good that they added the quest items to the Spectre Requisitions though. (If you fail to get them in the mission they are placed in)

Looks interesting, but I'm in the same boat as coldstrife. I'm not getting hyped for DA3. At the very least, not until I know more about it.

I'm amazed they're making the third game after what the first two turned out to be.
That's why you need me.... Need someone to punish you for your sins.

First one was awesome. Second one was... meh.

And if you thought both sucked, why are you here? o.o

With DA2 they changed their franchise to appeal to the CoD gamers and to max profit with low effort. I bet they will keep this direction, so I am not really hyped about it.

In the end it will again reuse assets like crazy, and the decisions that matter will be: Green, Blue or yellow light? That all spiced up with really well written conversations like: http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/5...9754913574.jpg

Oh look, the "DA2 was a piece of shit" crowd is back.

I actually liked the game. The leveling system (While perhaps a tad too simplified) was far superior to Origins. Just as the environments in Origins were far superior to DA2. DA2 had the same feature of interesting characters and an interesting storyline. In this facet, I actually liked DA2 more. Origins had characters that I couldn't give two shits about. Oghren? Zevran? I didn't care one ounce about those characters. I cannot say the same thing for DA2's main cast.

*gasps* Games can have both good and bad qualities? SHOCKING!

This...Bioware has steadily gone downhill the past few years. It's really depressing. DA1 and the expansion kicked so much ass, I was devastated when played through the second one. I've since gone through DA1 about 20 times, each time with more and more mods installed. I haven't touched DA2 since the first playthrough.

Looks like DA3 will take place in (at least partly) in Orlais.

"Oh hey, you know that poor decision nearly every major reviewer criticized us for? Yeah, let's do that again." I doubt they'll be reusing anything if at all possible.

Oh look, ME3 ending oversimplification bitching, how original

Oh look, a poor out-of-context example to poorly explain a point!

Seriously, DA2 was a mediocre game overrated by the majority of reviewers and Bioware gets WAY TOO MUCH hype and credit lately, but seriously, how about some actual evidence instead of the extreme overreactions I see in every single negative post about them and EA?

I liked DA2 too, but it was (in my opinion) vastly inferior to DAO in certain ways. I liked DA2's graphics more, I liked its gameplay more (I prefer the more action-y combat as opposed to the more strategy combat of DAO), and I liked the voice acting and characters more (for the most part - Alistair will always be awesome, as will Morrigan). The story, maps, inventory, and story were all steps down from DAO for me. DA2 is my freshest memory of the franchise, so it's going to be what I base my excitement on. As I said, I'm holding off my hype until I know more about it at least.

Something that I agree with you 100%. Some parts of Origins were better than DA2 (Environments), and some parts of DA2 were better than Origins (Combat, Leveling, Characters in an overall sense).

The fact of the matter is that regardless of what the ending of DA3 is (Assuming DA3 is the last of the trilogy), people will still complain about it. People will still say that EA forced Bioware to ruin it, and people will still say that their "favorite franchise" was ruined. The exact thing happened to Mass Effect, with people seemingly throwing out their 120+ hours across 3 games because they disliked the last 10 minutes of the final game.

I'm glad I am not nor will I ever be a video game developer, especially in this day and age. Gamers are far too uppity and want everything. And if they do not get it, they will say that the entire franchise is garbage. People are saying that big companies are ruining gaming, but that is only a facet of it. These spoiled gamers are equally as guilty.

"We want the best game of all time, something better than any other game in its franchise. If we don't get it, the game is automatically crap."

    Give me a break.

    Get over yourselves, gamers.

Combat was not better than 1.At least in 1 you felt the hit whether that be a spell or a good old two hander to the belly. In 2 all weapons hit exactly the same there was no oomph to you hitting someone with a big huge sword and that was something that broke my sense of it being in the DA saga. I wanting to feel I was connected my sword to something. I wanted to feel I was actually doing something in this world to change it for the better or worse and it just didn't happen with 2.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I've played Origins through full playthroughs multiple times (100+ hours) and the only point that I would even consider being partly accurate is the way that the weight of weapons were in DA:O.

Regardless, I don't count all of combat in just combat animations. If we were doing that, mage animations (Something I played most of the time) were far superior to DA:O, which was essentially just the mage raising the staff and something happening to the enemy.

I was also one of the people who were... dissatisfied with the ME3 endings, but I don't let that last 15 or so minutes ruin the 90+ (easily) hours I spend on the trilogy up to that point per playthrough. I've got like, 3 or 4 Shepards going at the moment with as many finished. Same for DAO and DA2, though I've only gone through those 3 or 4 times.

Unfortunately those events happen not nearly enough in DA:O. And are largely ignorable for all monsters that are not major bosses. Frankly, all the "ideas" that the guy was talking about did not translate nearly as well in the game as in theory.

Interested in how DA3 turns out. I loved Dragon Age: Origins but I could never get into Dragon Age 2. They went a bit too far away from the typical RPG game that Dragon Age: Origin was. I'm fairly sure they won't make that same mistake again, and steer Dragon Age 3 back towards Origins. Gonna be following this title for sure. BioWare creates excellent stories, and for that alone I will most likely be getting DA3.
