I used to play it. Loved the game but the graphics are really outdated and for the free-to-play people its very limited in your skills, classes, and races. I went to play the game after being out of it for a year and a half and just couldn't get back into the swing of things. Good luck in your endeavors to get people to play it though. I might make the suggestion to try & get into the Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn beta testing and see if you like that game. Similar style of game to EQ2 with some differences though. I got into beta and plan on testing it out this weekend when the servers are up.

The game is ok but got a ton of stuff outdated in it, way too many spells, graphics ton of bugs and painful quest and way too much quests and bad zone flow oh and cash shop... This and WoW came at about the same time, WoW age so much better! But soon Everquest Next will come out! Time will tell of it's any better!

At the moment I'm unable to play EQ2 because i'm on my mac and going to remove osx and install windows on it so I can play EQ2, (btw im extremely new to EQ2 but not to games). anyway, its 4:27am here and im here full of adrenaline can't wait to play EQ2.

THERE ARE EXTREME amount of features in EQ2 that go beyond your mind.

I can't believe I use to play WoW (I never knew EQ2 existed, I did know but did not take full intrest in it a couple of years ago) but now i'm fully locked onto EQ2 .

Anyway, here's the deal.

3. Download and install the game.
4 Open the game and play around with it, then type in EQ2 rules.

now first of all, if you don't want to enter then don't. but as you can see I have high faith in this game so I am going to do it.
this is the game also I think where you can become great in the game. its extremely fun and addicting, the community is also VERY STRONG AND MATURE.

To be quite frank with you, I like how there are a-lot of spells and a-lot of "items/content/etc". I know less is more, but in Everquest they are going beyond MMORPGS, now I must say that I also thought WoW was better, now I dumped wow and switched over to EQ2 and look at WoW been so stale. the good thing about wow was cata (nice texture/quality upgrades).

SoE has been very open about the fact that they're working on a new EQ title for quite some time. Official announcement will come at SoE Live in a few months.

Restrictions have been loosened enough that it's a relatively decent model. You're still locked out of stuff like higher ranks of spells and some other odds and ends that can really hamper the experience though. Definitely worth poking around though IMO. Even with its schizophrenic design (core design being a more oldschool, hardcore MMO but more recent changes over the years being more akin to the WoW style design so it clashes many times) it's still a solid MMO.

There's the matrix of what's locked and what's not. Dropping 5 bucks to be a silver member does wonders for unlocking additional stuff for your account.

I know it's an old joke no one cares about, but is EQ2 still fugly to play on a really good pc? I always rolled a Ratonga when I tried it because I've never seen such ugly looking Humanoid models* in my life.

I'm assuming the new "vampire" race didn't get a model update because god damn they look fugly.

One can make a high level character instantly for free in EQ2 now. You only get one per account, but EQ2 does let you try everything [inc. high level gear] before you decide.

How is this done?

When you make a new character there is an option to make a "heroic" character as well.

There are two options;
1. "I wanna try out a heroic character". You can play up to the point where you gain one level. Then have to decide if you want to make that your "freebie" hero.
2. "I know what I want for my high level character". Then that's your once per account "freebie" hero choice.

Neither option costs any money. You just have the limitation that if you want try a class it's only for a level or so. Or you just get one free hero as a F2P player.

Alternatively, you can buy hero packs in the cash shop which basically give you another hero character.

By hero, I mean high level character. There is still like 40% of the game to go though. "High level" in EQ2 is not really the same as say, SWTOR or WoW. There is a LOT of shit your got to do to even get rolling for endgame.
