    Upgrading graphic card

    Hey guys,

I bought my computer from dell xps 8500 ( I know bad choice!) and now facing graphic card problem. I get alot of lag in 25man raids and frame rate drops from 60 to around 20, sometimes even lower. I am putting the specs down below and would like you guys to help me in deciding on what new graphic card to get.

I have no idea how they work but I was thinking about GTX 650 or GTX 660. If you guys dont mind, please also link the recommended graphic cards. I dont want to buy a too expensive card but a card on which I can play 25man raids on normal settings or higher.

Please also let me know if I need to upgrade my power supply (think its 460w right now). However, I would prefer not to spend extra money

The 640 really isn't a 'gaming' video card. I think a 450w PSU is the minimum requirement for a GTX 660ti.

A 660 would probably be your best bet, as at biggest bottleneck in raids at that point is the CPU

Is the Motherboard going to be fine by using GTX 660? and 450 is the minimum requirement for it so should I change the powersupply to make it a little higher or is 460W is going to work fine?

    Thanks in advance

    I have a Geforce 460 on a 300w PSU. The 460 has a 160w max pull. The 660 has a 130w pull, so you should be fine.

Go for the 660, it's not very power-comsuming and you should be just fine....not to mention it's a *great* card for a budget card, out of all the Nvidia cards on the market at least, this one gives you the biggest bang for your buck. Do *not* go for the Ti version though, yes, it's a better card but about 10-15 dollars better not the 80ish dollars that they charge for it, said extra money would be better kept in your pocket or used for a better card. Anyways, I have a 660 myself and will be putting them in SLI when my second card gets here. But even with the single card, I'm very very pleased with it considering it's a fifth the cost of the best cards out there at the moment.

Check out the 650 ti boost version. Its just about as strong as the 660 and for about 30 dollars cheaper.

Oh ok thank you for the reply

So, looking at the replies want to buy:

Geforce GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDMI, DP

(sorry the thread wont allow me to post link, but its from memory express)

The only thing I am concerned about is the power supply. The minimum requirement says u need 450w (and someother jargin). All I know is that my computer has 460W. Can anyone please double check that this will work?

I can't think of any reason it wouldn't. They set those 'requirements' ridiculously high, like three times higher, mostly as a liability.

Your system likely doesn't pull more than 150w with the 640, and probably wouldn't even break 200w with the 660.

I'd go for the 650Ti BOOST as most models seem to use 1 6-pin PCIe connector. Yes, the 660 is really strong, but I think they use a 6+2pin, which the Dell PSU may not have.

The 660s just use a single 6 pin and that is all.
