AMD A10/FX or i3 3225 for budget build to run BF3?

    Hey,

Just a quick question about a budget build to run BF3/Far Cry 3. A friend wants to buy his son a PC to run these with a ~£500 budget.

This is what I've come up with but I'm wondering if an i3 or an AMD FX would be better for a budget build or the AMD A10 is a better buy?

    They are both AMD.
    Intel i5-3570K @ 4.7GHz | MSI Z77 Mpower | Noctua NH-D14 | Corsair Vengeance LP White 1.35V 8GB 1600MHz
    Gigabyte GTX 670 OC Windforce 3X @ 1372/7604MHz | Corsair Force GT 120GB | Silverstone Fortress FT02 | Corsair VX450

...I take it you didn't look at the weekly offers? There's an Athlon X4 760k full system for under £250 and an Ivy Bridge Pentium mobo bundle for under £150 from Scan. The system build needs a GPU and an OS. The GTX760 WF3 from Scan is £222, the Athlon combo is the same, leaving the OS going just over budget at around £525, which is less than the Trinity APU build you posted above.

EDIT: add in a cooler to the Athlon build (probably the Scythe or the CM Hyper 212 EVO) to take it to around £550 for added overclocking capacity.

You want him to pair a GTX 760 with... an athlon or a pentium? O_O. BF3 is pretty CPU intensive in 64 player maps. It's questionable whether either of these CPUs could keep up.

On the topic of the builds...What games do you play other than BF3/far cry 3?

Heres a really solid build for this price range. Though, i know it's over your budget, i think it's well worth the cost to upgrade to a i5.

If you flat out can't afford the jump, it depends on what you play other than bf3/farcry 3. Though, the 3220 is usually the way to go.

It's not for me, so I can only go on the information given but it's way over his budget.

I'm just unsure of how an i3 would handle larger BF3 games.

This is for an FX build under 500 pounds. For 60 pounds extra, you could either get a 760 or an i5 3350p.
But this should play BF3 and FC3 pretty decent.

THe price on the 6300 seems a temporary deal to me, so im not sure how long that will last.

Wondering if there's any changes you guys would recommend which won't bump up the cost really.

Looks good, but id get a 2 GB 7850. But you already seem to be over budget, so that might be tricky.
