While conquering something obviously makes it yours (if you can defend it, you own it), we certainly shouldn't let China take Taiwan. Ultimately most of them want to remain independent, but they've stated that if forced to choose, they'd rather join America than China. And due to a few WWII treaties, we have to a) defend them from outside invasion and b) acknowledge their choice, should they decide to annex themselves into a US territory.

And while I'd have no problem with Germany taking Austria, I don't think the Germans want it at this point.

God no, we don't want you lot.

Canada still has the Queen, so it's ours.

You get Quebec, or leave it for the French - though I'm not too sure that they want it either.

    Nobody wants Quebec except Quebec.

I am not saying any of countries want to do this (except for China probably does), but should they be allowed to without an international slap on the wrist?
One shouldn't be allowed to invade the other, but if both want to merge then there should be nobody stopping them.

Belarus is the only dictatorship in Europe, so I don't think they would want to give up power. So it's not happening.
Taiwan and China don't agree with eachother so I don't see a merger happening any time soon, and perhaps never.
North and South Korean people would probably want to unify their countries, except the problem is the North's dictatorship not willing to give up power. Germany and Austria should technically be allowed to unify, except after WWII the US has banned such a move. I think this needs to change though, if both sides want it then let them. It's silly to cling to old feuds like that. I also think Belgium needs to join with the Netherlands or maybe some parts with France, it's a silly unproductive country because of the two languages and two cultures.

Anyway, invading is out of the question.

Can you even name me a single capitalist country on the planet? Just one?

I'm not saying capitalism is bad, but if it's the best system then I sure hope it starts becoming popular.

There's two issues at hand really:

    1) People mistake communism with Marxism-Leninism, which is really totalitarianism, while real communism, Marx' communism, is simply a classless society.

    2) If proponents of past ideologies and belief systems did something bad, that means the ideology or belief system itself shouldn't be followed by anyone. That's why, for example, people don't follow Christianity (because of all the crusades and inquisitions and so forth). Oh, wait. Crap. I sense I got something wrong there.

FYI: I'm not a damn commie. Oh no, don't worry, I'm still quite red. As in, socialist-red.

It shouldn't. Countries like Turkey can flood their neighbours with millions of people and use that as a justification to start a war. Just look at Cyprus.

I realized yesterday that my beliefs are more so socialist than communist.

To be quite honest, there isn't a huge difference between full socialism and full original communism. One of the major differences though is that communism is a lot harder to achieve and that's one of the reasons why I don't really call myself a communist, it seems like it would be too early for someone to do that. As for socialism, even when you call yourself that, at the moment, it more so means that you aspire to the ideals that a socialist society would have, it doesn't necessarily assume that the end goal is the establishment of a socialist society itself.

Yeah, when I call myself a socialist, by that I mean that I endorse the democratic implementation of socialist ideals and ideas, not practices. So I'm fine with states still having some capitalist aspects. It would be too gradual a chance if it just went away suddenly anyways.
