No. That would NOT be the better question. THAT question involves the general balance of the class. The topic of this thread is, why do hunters deserve or need:
> A ground target AOE with no real cost, a short cooldown, and a duration about equal to its cooldown that is ONLY useful versus stealthed or invisible targets, entirely preventing the use of vanish, the core rogue defensive model and a big part of rogue mobility (especially an issue given the physical root they instacast as they leap across the world).
> The ability to detect stealth at a very high level (+6 I think)
> The ability to stealth themselves with a very similar stealth level to that of characters who rely on stealth to open in melee, when the hunter is a full range dps.
> The ability to combine those three to form the best metastealth character in the game (a hunter and a rogue seeking each other will have the hunter seeing the rogue first, from range, unless the rogue pops glyphed shadow walk JUST at the right time)
> The mysterious ability to be unsappable? What? Sap isn't a ranged attack guys! If it is, make me be able to sap from 40 yards!
This is a pretty wild amount of counters to a class that, if it opens on the hunter, certainly doesn't get a free HK or anything. Rogues are built around stealth. Hunters are NOT built around anti-stealth- they just have a lot of that shit baked in for some dumb reason, and each expansion makes it worse and worse. It's a SERIOUS problem, and it doesn't seem to be high on the devs list to address- if they even think it's a problem.
I don't see how anyone wouldn't though. Objectively it's absurd. You could safely delete flare and track hidden and hunters would still be rocking the same solid top spots. Oh, and make hunters able to be sapped.
You do know builds are still coming and they just acknowledged more changes for hunters. We just got a baseline interrupt and I'm sure we will remain pushing your shit in for more months to come. =]
Blizzard would have to revert all of the nerfs this patch for that to be the case - the issues atm are the ridiculous levels of CC a hunter brings, combined with their three trinkets. I honestly can't see Blizzard folding and reverting the readiness/narrow escape nerfs, despite the tears.
The better question would be "Why do hunters get so many abilities that counter melee...and casters except locks and shadow priests ?!"
The ONLY casters Hunters remotely counter is Frost and Arcane Mages. Fire Mages eat Hunters alive, locks have absurd amounts of tools agains't us and every other caster in the game is an hybrid that can easily beat a hunter simlpy by wearing him down while keeping himself alive since hunters have no dot protection and the worse self healing in the game.
