This happens in LFD too, and in pugs. It's always been around, but it's pushing away the good tanks and making the in competent people step up to fill the role of tank.
And NOT helping new tanks AT ALL..Most common thing I hear is "then run with your guild and don't waste others time" which of course isn't possible since i'm only still in out of loyalty...

Yet when the other tanks help show me the ropes and work with me things go GREAT.

What is your experience as a tank? Heroic dungeons? LFR?

The timing of using SoTR or Shield Block or Shield Barrier is what lets your survive things like 800k slams from Animus massives.

Over all, the quality of the tanks as of late seems to be declining. It worries me since my guild recently had a tank leave because of a job and now we gotta get a new one. Im already picky as is with my OT, but lately, idk. Last tank we tried couldn't even manage a simple taunt the boss off the healers. Have others been experiencing this as well?
I will often forgoe SOR in a five man setting, which I can easily solo in order to take more damage and build up my vengeance.

Maybe you should rethink old loyalties if you wish to progress.

yep pretty brain dead ensuring you keep sacred shield up at max vengeance levels, the debuff from hammer of the righteous applied to the boss, maintaining your holy power and stacks from blocking to a level where you can use word of glory after a really big hit, while not just spamming away on shield of the righteous so it is available when you need it for that big hit mechanic.

Also my server is basically dead....And TBH I kinda suck I have don research I have tried multiple gemming and reforge styles but I almost never get to actually learn my role.

Honestly, you can't go levelling and say tank quality is declining. Anyone who wants to tank seriously at this point of the expansion will be at 90, the only people you will see are dps queuing as tanks for speed or people who are learning to tank.

Like going into a kindergarten and saying the quality of education is going down, people can't even read anymore.

We moved a portion of our guild to a dead server in order to bolster it's decline. Seems to be working too. From a combination of diseminating facts about the proper way to do things and the animosity we built up from guilds that had been accomplishing nothing till we got there the raiding is actually picking up a bit.

Still, we do not hand out information freely to people who insist on remaining trapped in going nowhere guilds. Raiding comes with a price and that price is commitment. Some times that commitment requires you to make choices and moves that will better you as an individual.

Can you say something more constructive than "herp derp U wur da baddiz" ? I play, and raided, since Vanilla in pretty decent guilds. But even if I was/am bad, still can't see how me being bad as anything to do with the level of other people ?

Fact is that their was always bad player in wow, ok. But when I now see locks doing less damage than their pets, feral druid hero playing the one button mangle cycle (yeah, take "whole log" in recount and you'll only see white + mangle, not, a, single, other, button), mage using sheep in their cycle (know it sound joke, it isn't), shaman @90 poping lust right at the start of LFD to "make the group run faster" (WTF?!?!?), prot paladin playing as dps (new hype here, have got 5 last week. "I play how I want" is the usual answer. Only one said "I have no tank gear yet"). Healer not having a single clue at what their job is (watch LFR healing log, Hpal @12k HPS in full 502 gear).

Never saw that many "baddies", I you call them, in every other expansion since vanilla (And while I played only a shaman in vanilla, I play at least 3 chars since BC doing a lot of PUGS 5man with them cause I still love 5man)

I always found tanking to be a lot of fun until you hit the endgame. At that point then it just well we only need x amount of tanks for this guild or this guild. But like previous posters said all previous experiences an nullified when you get to the end game as a tank.

1-85 you mostly find people using heirlooms. If you end up in a group with a full heirloom tank or one heirloom dps it completely skews your your dungeon experience. And even if they don't have heirloom gear once you get to certain levels 68-70, 76-80, 83-85 people just buy greens from the next xpac up that are on par with tier gear of that xpac. I see it all the time I see hunters pulling 80k dps in stonecore normal at level 83. Druids that need to just cast renew and they can keep at tank at full health on a boss fight. DPS that blow up mobs quicker then they have time to even cast an ability.

I guess what I'm saying is if you were new to this game and didn't know better why the hell would you even think you need to use ANY cooldown as a tank. Their is zero coaching from one player to another and zero explanation from the game. If you don't keep up with the changes or have an army of alts how can you blame anyone.

Every wonder why? Maybe its because the good tanks are tired of carrying shitty dps..bad healers, epeening morons that demand on pulling everything in sight then bitching they died..and for what? a satchel with worthless crap in it? no thanks...I only tank for guild runs now

I love doing heroics on my main. I literally never stop pulling. If they cant keep up then they get locked out lol. I actually got kicked out of a temple of Jade Serpent run when I pull the whole library at once and the healer said I scared him. Then I was vote kicked. Fun times lol.

They might not be optimal, but it's far superior to having someone tank in random quest greens.

Also, "dps gear" and "tanking gear" are quite often the same, as dodge/parry aren't very popular tanking stats anymore.
if theyre in full pvp gear, i refuse to heal their sorry arses around a RHC so they can get their VP's. someone else can do that, tyvm.
