I wanted to share the sad news that Seth Vidal was killed in a hit and run last night while riding his bicycle (the driver has since turned himself in). Any linux users out there would know him as the creator of the update program "yum", used by Red Hat and many other rpm-based operating systems. I knew him as the guy who patiently answered my linux questions (and occasionally yelled at me for stealing supplies) when I was a young graduate student at Duke.
He was an extremely well respected figure in the open source world, and an avid bicyclist.
